  1. Re: How to finish, wash and dry fibre paper prints for exhibition and sale

Yes, I was indeed referring to that post.

    There you also mention:

I don’t have such a washer and they are very expensive at fotoimpex.de, what would a good alternative washing technique be?
  2. Re: How to finish, wash and dry fibre paper prints for exhibition and sale

If I may return to this advice again, what dilution does bath 2 have? Same 1+9 as bath 1 or something different?
  3. Re: How to finish, wash and dry fibre paper prints for exhibition and sale

Yes, I am indeed from Germany - Dresden, to be precise.

For the „Fliegengitter“: Does it really not matter what I buy - isn’t there a danger it reacting with the paper while drying? Also: Should I...
  4. Re: How to finish, wash and dry fibre paper prints for exhibition and sale

Cloth lines and cloth pins is my preferable way of drying RC prints (see images below). But for fibre prints this large I fear that they'd curl up to much and also as a result the glossy surface...
  5. Re: How to finish, wash and dry fibre paper prints for exhibition and sale

Oh, OK a mesh is preferable over glass screens, I guess.
In your second image the prints would dry laying horizontally, isn't horizontal drying of prints prone to stains or "uneven glossiness" of...
  6. Re: How to finish, wash and dry fibre paper prints for exhibition and sale

After reading all of the above, I now got two follow up questions.

    1. Would it be feasible to put multiple prints at once into the press (that I have yet to build)? I was considering to have...
  7. Re: How to finish, wash and dry fibre paper prints for exhibition and sale

Wow, thank you all! I am always astonished how deep the answers in this forum are. Thank you again, you are helping a lot!

One more question on the toning:

You have mentioned that it would be...
  8. How to finish, wash and dry fibre paper prints for exhibition and sale

I need to make some 40x50cm prints on (preferably glossy) fibre paper from 4x5 b&w negatives for a small exhibition.
Some of these prints should also be sold there in small editions (5 prints per...
  9. Re: There is a weird little screw on my Schneider SA XL 5,6/58

Thank you all for the info. I have seen two or three different different unscrewed lensboards so far, none of them contained such a hole for it and my other lenses don't have such a produding screw....
  10. There is a weird little screw on my Schneider SA XL 5,6/58

There is a weird little screw on my Schneider Super Angulon XL 5,6/58 lens that protruded from the back just enough so that I can’t properly mount the lens, that it is really level and flat on my...
  11. Re: A brief history of large format photography

I don’t want to go into very much details on lens development just an overall simple overview of everything that fits on 6 or seven slides.
  12. Ressources for a brief history of large format photography

I am planing a little one-day course that is supposed to introduce large format photography to amateur photographers and other „photo enthusiasts“. The idea is to show what is different compared to...
  13. Re: Schneider Kreuznach Super Angulon MC XL 5,6/58

According to those charts the image circle is big enough for 4x5. And there is even a bit of room (almost 1cm) of shifting without exceeding the image circle. so if I do not tilt and shift, does that...
  14. Re: Schneider Kreuznach Super Angulon MC XL 5,6/58

This seems like a very interesting document.
The images are a bit too lowres though. Do you happen to have it at a higher resolution, or maybe even as a PDF? May/should I PM you for that.
  15. Re: Schneider Kreuznach Super Angulon MC XL 5,6/58

So the question still stands: Is this lens generally considered to be a really good super wide angle lens? Are there better ones?

Also, it looks like that lens goes on eBay between 600 and 900...
  16. Re: Schneider Kreuznach Super Angulon MC XL 5,6/58

Was that (nice) image shot using a center ND filter? I wonder how strong the vignetting actually is on 4x5 on that lens without a center ND filter.
  17. Re: Schneider Kreuznach Super Angulon MC XL 5,6/58

Why do I need a center ND filter for this lens when shooting 4x5? Is this because of some heavy vignetting? Is the coverage circle of this lens not large enough for 4x5? Why do I need it for color...
  18. Schneider Kreuznach Super Angulon MC XL 5,6/58

I got offered a lens with the following description

Schneider Kreuznach Super Angulon MC XL 5,6/58 Copal 0 (Code 16189)

    and this image:

I am considering to buy it to use it with my...

    A really nice cable release

I am about to get my first 4x5 camera and it is going to be a beautiful Chamonix C45F-2.
So far I only shot 35mm and medium format and used the cheapest prehistoric cable release from the flew...

Re: Hypo clear for large RC prints

I am thinking of buying this tray: https://www.fotoimpex.com/darkroom/deville-darkroom-tray-for-paper-50x60-cm.html?sort=6
It says it is for 50x60cm paper, but it doesn‘t say how much larger than...

Hypo clear for large RC prints

I am going to do a larger amount of 50x60cm RC prints in a row and I will wash them in a tray using a „DEVILLE Washer - for darkroom trays 30x40 cm and larger“ ...
  26. Re: How could I rinse 50x60cm prints using these sinks?

    I found this:

DEVILLE Washer - for darkroom trays 30x40 cm and larger: https://www.fotoimpex.com/darkroom/deville-washer-for-darkroom-trays-30x40-cm-and-larger.html

Are they any good? Should I...
  27. How could I rinse 50x60cm prints using these sinks?

I need to print some larger prints from 4x5 negatives on 50x60cm paper. It will be RC paper for now but later I also want to try fiber at that size.

My sinks are only 52x50cm and look like in the...
  28. Re: Drying and flattening larger fiber and RC paper

That works for fiber paper too?

What is „ply archival board“, sorry I am German and not a native English speaker.
Is this board similar to that what is used to make passepartouts?
  29. Re: Drying and flattening larger fiber and RC paper

What do you mean by “screens” and is this a “dry mount press”:

    213503

If you use them without heat how long does it take to dry it? They can only take two prints, so that would be a veeeety...
  30. Drying and flattening larger fiber and RC paper

I am about to print my first 4x5 negatives and some of them I would like to print on larger fiber based paper at 50,8x61cm (20x24“) and some using RC paper of the same size.
    So far I have only...

Those look interesting, although quite expensive.
Is the regular „Ultralight“ (somewhat) water repellent?
Is the none-colored side really black (I think they don‘t show in on the pictures)?

    Re: Chamonix C45F-2 vs. C45H-1

I got this answer in another thread:

While I don’t plan to go larger than 4x5, it’s still an interesting info. So with the H-1 I could use wider backs but can’t with the F-2?

I made a extra thread for the comparison of the two cameras Maybe you can chime in with your thoughts on this topic there.

It clearly looks like the spring is on the inside in the above picture. Did they assemble it wrong or maybe they changed it and you use a different version?

That loupe is 3,94 inches (10cm) and with the “diopter adjustment spacer” it is 4,1 inches long.
  39. Re: Focusing aids for Chamonix 4x5 cameras

Do you think there is a chance that the metal spring that can be seen in the picture will eventually hurt the ground glas? It seems like it would touch the ground glass when the viewfinder is...
  40. Re: Focusing aids for Chamonix 4x5 cameras

Chamonix makes a carbon loupe which is quite long, I linked to it in the original post and I own it. I wonder wether it is long enough for the viewfinder #2.
