    Winter Weather Photography

North of the Equator it's getting cooler, with the usual changes in weather bringing with it new visions and the challenges it takes to capture them.
Foggy nights and days, bare trees, holiday...

  4. Re: 8x10" at which length, is an auxiliary bellows support necessary?

    An excellent idea!
  5. Re: 8x10" at which length, is an auxiliary bellows support necessary?

I've found a piece of card stock folded into a "V" works well under sagging bellows.
  6. Re: Large format aerial photography...anyone?

Pretty much. Prop wash and wind don't like bellows.
My current aerial camera (I parted with the K-17 after the hernia repair:( ) is a Gowland. Pretty much an aluminum 8x10 box camera.

Finding large format roll film for aerial cameras is a PITA. Decades ago I used to buy past dated Kodak stuff but I think that's all History now

I just came across this resource so I thought...
  11. Re: Thinking of buying an Omega B-8 enlarger

D2 is a fine machine. I have both a Dll and a D2. Look for one that comes with as many of the goodies you can find. Buying accessories piece by piece can add up quickly!
  12. Re: Thinking of buying an Omega B-8 enlarger

The B-8 is a fine enlarger but it's not for 4x5.
Which format do you want your enlarger for?
  13. Re: Potentially useful LEDs for darkroom/alt applications

A short string of red led Christmas lights serve as my safe light since GE discontinued their Guide Lamp night lights.
I got 'em on clearance at CVS.

A bathroom with a piece of cardboard over the window works for me.:)

  18. Re: Over the years - sheet film holders question - your most preferred and maintenanc

Honestly, my experience with sheet film holders is limited---mine are all old and second or third (fourth?) hand
For 4x5 my all time favorites are older Riteways--as close to bullet proof as it...

Re: Unique/ lesser known portrait lenses

Put a glass filter on whatever lens you have and apply a schmear of K-Y or Vaseline (K-Y is easier to remove afterwards) to the edges and see how that works out for you

  25. Re: How do I recognize lenses that will cover an 8X10 plate with no vignetting

    OK
    I'll play the devil's advocate.
If shooting 8x10 black and white is what rocks your boat, shoot 8x10.
You already have the lens, so go for it.
You'll likely waste a few sheets of 'spensive...
  26. Re: How do I recognize lenses that will cover an 8X10 plate with no vignetting

There are good lenses that will work nicely for both 4x5 and 8x10 formats
240mm G Clarons and 14" Artars are common enough, as are 159mm Wollensaks and the 300mm Nikon M. Of course a lot would...
  27. Re: How do I recognize lenses that will cover an 8X10 plate with no vignetting

I got to play with a 165mm Super Angulon once.
IIRC, it weighed as much as my first automobile LOL!
A Wollensak 159mm EWA will cover 8x10 with little or no wiggle room.
  28. Re: How do I recognize lenses that will cover an 8X10 plate with no vignetting

Wide lenses for Architecture with an 8x10presents an interesting challenge.
Nearly every Architecture specialist who shoots 4x5 has a 90mm in the stable
You can bet money on that.
