    Re: Large Format Landscapes

That’s beautiful. How long was the exposure, and how did you develop the negative?
  2. Re: Keeping borders square when trimming photos

Dahle makes a rotary trimmer that’s priced significantly lower than the Rotatrim models, but, you probably get what you pay for. But I’m thinking it might produce better results than my carpenter’s...
  3. Re: Keeping borders square when trimming photos

Has anyone used Dahle brand trimmers? They’re more in line with what I can afford. The Rotatrims are a bit pricey for me, although I’m sure they’re worth it.
  4. Re: Keeping borders square when trimming photos

Thanks for the feedback. I think I’ll have to spring for a decent trimmer, if I can find one that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. My wife will be thrilled when the UPS man arrives with yet another box...
  5. Keeping borders square when trimming photos

For those of you who dry mount, how do you keep the edges square when trimming the borders and dry mount tissue? I use a carpenter’s square and utility knife, but I often screw it up, ending up with...

Paul, that’s beautiful. Is that an actual location, or a very nicely done studio setup?
  7. Re: DIY Print Squeegee improvement -- for those like me with Rube G. genes

Well, I’m in the minority here. I never squeegee my prints. I just hang them up to dry. Never noticed any ill effects from this, but after reading these posts, I think I’ll try it and compare a dried...

Large format at Jan. 6 hearing

I noticed a gray-haired photographer milling around the witness table with 4x5 film holders sticking out of a jacket pocket and carrying what looked like a Linhof or an old Speed Graphic in one hand....

I love this thread. I’ve just looked at some of my “rejects” with more forgiving eyes.

Re: would flashing help me in this situation?

Chester, in my opinion, your darkroom print looks fine. But I know how niggling things like that can drive one crazy.

Re: Filtering for a deep red filter

[QUOTE=Drew Wiley;1645129]Everything depends on the specifics. For example, what do you mean by deep red? 24A isn't as deep as a 25; 29 is deeper still, and some brands deeper than others. That...
  19. Re: What’s your most “unpopular” opinion about LF?

Most unpopular opinion? That using a view camera is really cool. I quit believing that when DSLR photographers started looking at me, not with admiration, but with the kind of pitiful gaze reserved...

That’s a great story. I often feel like tearing up my prints, but it wouldn’t provide the same kind of drama.

    Keeping or tossing prints?

In the course of a typical darkroom session, I’ll wind up with multiple prints, trying to arrive at the “perfect” one. The so-called “work prints” aren’t especially bad, but they exhibit flaws that...

Re: Speedotron speed ring for 202vf head

Well, it looks as if this whole thing was operator error on my part. I just gave it another go and was able to attach my cheapish Lumopro softbox to the Speedotron/Chimera speed ring. Timid fellow...

Thanks for the feedback. I guess my thinking was cockeyed, in that I thought strobe manufacturers would make their speed rings compatible with a broad range of soft boxes. I guess Speedotron had a...

Re: Speedotron speed ring for 202vf head

Thanks. I had thought that if I purchased a Speedotron speed ring, it would be compatible with many brands of soft boxes. So I was surprised to see “Chimera” on it. I don’t think there’s any way my...

Speedotron speed ring for 202vf head

I recently acquired a used Speedotron speed ring to use on a 202vf head. I assumed that the Speedotron-brand speed ring would work with any soft box, but I noticed when it arrived that the ring has...

My first post on this forum. Still life, natural light, Ultrafine VC Elite paper, Burke and James 4x5 RB. I don't recall the exposure.
