Re: An Open Letter to the Photography Industry

How about the band, and the serving staff, and the valet parking attendants? I have no idea. I am just trying to figure out what is so special about wedding photographers.

The wedding photographer whinefest continues on Petapixel.

  3. Re: Bridesmaid Demoted to Unpaid Photographer at Friendís Wedding

I don't know. I don't think the professional photographer or the bridesmaid were shooting large format. On the other hand, maybe the bridesmaid left the wedding to go back home to get her large...

If I want to sell my photographs at a crafts fair for $100 that's my business. Who are you to tell me I have to sell them for $500 just so you can sell yours for $500?

Re: An Open Letter to the Photography Industry

It sounds like the author of the article is just whining. If she can't demonstrate to prospective brides and grooms (or other customers) that her product is sufficiently better than that of a weekend...
  7. Re: It happened to me! What Disasters or Near-misses have you had while Shooting?

In the 1970s, I was shooting a concert from the balcony. I had my Pentax SP500 on a tripod and attached a cable release. I turned around and the cable release caught on my jacket. I managed to rip...
  8. Re: Is the obsession with analogue gearing an obstacle to art?

Shoot with whatever you want and let the images speak for themselves. No one other than another photographer cares about your process.
  9. Re: Bellows Replacement for Linhof Technikardan?

The Custom Bellows are an exact duplicate. I think Custom Bellows makes them for Linhof as OEM.
  10. Re: Bellows Replacement for Linhof Technikardan?

Well then, whatever the bellows attached to. I am sure you have a special name for them. I had to send them in to get my new bellows.
  11. Re: Bellows Replacement for Linhof Technikardan?

I had new standard bellows done for my TK45 by Custom Bellows in the UK. You have to supply the frames. Cost was under $200 and it was pretty quick turnaround, less than a month. I also understand...

    Re: 8x10 Film Choice Paralysis

The boxes are so small, you can easily try several different types. I doubt film choice will make or break an image.

    Re: Why Crop?

There are only two reasons to crop:

    1. You composition does not fit the aspect ratio of the camera, or
    2. You could not or did not frame your composition properly at the time you made the image.

I shoot 4x5. I compose to that aspect ratio and print full frame.

I'd wait and see what size house you rent or buy before you go down the container route. You may find that a spare bedroom suffices for a darkroom.
