    Re: Linhof Dekel Shutter History

The book Bob refers to is presented in both German and English (in the same book, to be clear). The German title is Das Linhof Camera Buch and its English title is The Linhof Camera Story. I have the...

    Re: Linhof Dekel Shutter History

Thank you for this. Is this from Hartmut Thiele's Friedrich Deckel und der Compur-Verschluss? I have a copy but unfortunately for me as as a mono-lingual American it is, of course, in German.

    Re: Compur shutter serial numbers

I'm surprised your 8 1/2 inch Commercial Ektar even barely fits in your Technika when closed.

I'd known that the f6.3 Tessar covered a greater angle than its faster brethren but I didn't realize...
  4. Re: Precision Camera Works is moving to California [UPDATE: now Texas]

    Thank you for this.
Lakeway is described as being about 25 miles west of down town Austin.

    Re: Compur shutter serial numbers

Per Hartmut Thiele's Fabrikationsbuch Photooptik II Carl Zeiss Jena your 6.3 210 mm Tessar s/n 5902857 was one of a batch of 50, production of which started 29 April 1960. Further it was originally...

Interesting. Given that he had the loose cells do you have any idea how he determined the correct separation?

Re: shutters compatible with 7" Dagor?

I don't know when C.P. Goerz American Opt. Co. discontinued the 7 inch Dagor. It is shown in their 1951 catalogue; it was available in a No. 3 Rapax or a No. 2 Acme. It is not in their 1959...

Re: shutters compatible with 7" Dagor?

Ah, now I see the shutter is labeled "Compound". That logo (if that's what it is) on the speed dial; it looks sort of like a paper clip, looks familiar but I can't place where I've seen it.

Re: shutters compatible with 7" Dagor?

Safe to say that would not be a direct fit in to a Copal or "modern", i.e. post-WWII Compur.

Looks like a Compound except the cable release socket and shutter speed dial look a little off. Anyone:...

Re: shutters compatible with 7" Dagor?

If I understand you correctly, you are saying this is currently in a Compur shutter. Is that right? If so, is it a No. 1 Synchro Compur (rim-set)? In that case it could be a direct fir in to a No. 1...

Re: Coverage of 19 inch Red Dot Artar?

Morley Baer liked the 19" Red Dot Artar (used, of course, on his 8 X 10 Ansco.) In his book Adobes In the Sun he says "If I have a favorite, the 19" must be it."

Thank you very much for this. Just browsing turned up an interesting (to me anyway) nugget from the C.P. Goerz American Optical Company that led me to send them a contribution.

  19. Re: Preferences for 150-165mm lenses in 8x10?

    Re: 43/44mm shutter hole?

I have a hunch it's probably 44 mm. That's a common but not the only mounting thread size for the dial-set Compur, see here: https://skgrimes.com/products/mounting-flanges/

  28. Re: No dumb questions here...What have I purchased?

I think that is a Prontor shutter. It looks like the Prontor logo on the right front, photo 4. Has anyone seen a dial-set Prontor? The lens serial number indicates circa 1961-62. The 1962 Symmar...
