    Re: New Ektachrome 35mm

Ha! Yeah, but the leaded is hard to get. I use a pencil sharpener and dump some shavings into the tank every fill.

  5. Re: Stress of Buying Lenses - Sight Unseen / Reputation

It is a gamble buying expensive optics, like expensive sports cars. You can't learn to use either in an "reasonable amount of time" that a seller would let you use it for. In a year, yes. In one...

    New Ektachrome 35mm

Anyone shooting it? I got a couple rolls, and just got one developed.

Re: Some Soft Focus Lens Sales Information

Are you calling it "virgin" because it was never used? Or because no one ever bought any of them and they remained immaculate? I've thought a more appropriate name would have been "Ringling Bros....

Re: Bellows Wax & Wood Polish? Suggestions?

Lexol conditioner for leather. There are a few others you can use for fine leather, research saddlery. NOT Neatsfoot Oil unless you want a floppy, oily mess.

Evidently you and I are the only two on the LF forum who care about these. Strange how silent this forum has become since a few years ago. Like a library in a backwater town, I guess.

Thanks, they're good ones. It came yesterday, and the iris works. Everything looks good on it, ready to try.
  14. Re: Allowing Lens Availability to Dictate Format Choice

I let the design of my lens dictate my shots:

Extreme Wide Angle - LF imitation "selfie" photos with round faces and big noses
Fast Petzval - architectural shots of toilet functioning, to show...

  16. Re: Allowing Lens Availability to Dictate Format Choice

As a guy that got into LF and wetplate around 2006, I can say there was a price spike about 5 years ago, but it's going back down. Like a lot of fads, I've seen it a lot over my life - up fast, then...

Darlot were innovators. They came up with a lot of interesting variations of technologies, if not outright patentable inventions. I went to the big Paris camera show twice, and it was amazing some...

CC Harrison - with patent iris

I've really slowed down my radial drive lens collecting from the Golden Era a few years ago. But have a late CC Harrison with the iris coming soon. Several recent threads made me think about what...

  21. Re: Auto Graflex - manual of arms and tips needed

OK, maybe I'll try them. I found 2 excellent condition ones a couple years ago, and promptly sold them thinking I wouldn't use them.
  22. Re: Auto Graflex - manual of arms and tips needed

Still want to buy a couple of proper film holders (see WTB ad).
  23. Re: When did decent wide angles show up? [lens history question]

Going back between the first generation wide angles of the 1860s, and the anastigmats of the 1890s, there were a few more good ones. The R. D. Gray Extreme Wide Angle and the Morrison wides are very...

  25. Re: Auto Graflex - manual of arms and tips needed

It was needed - I have a bunch of 4x5 film in the freezer, but only a Speed Graphic and I think a Korona in that size. I better shoot it more, my usual 5x7 and whole plate are getting too expensive.
  26. Re: Auto Graflex - manual of arms and tips needed

Thanks both. I'll fiddle with it some more, and need some graflex film holders before I can shoot it. But will give it a try.
  27. Auto Graflex - manual of arms and tips needed

Hi, I've avoided buying one of these for years, always wanting the 5x7 one. But this 4x5 was clean and 50 bucks, so I sprung for it.

The shutter curtain is wrinkled, but seems to travel ok. ...
