Re: Coating Pt/Pd prints: results to-date

I'm not letting wax or varnish anywhere near my platinum palladium prints. Why would I want to make them look like something other than what they are?

    Re: 8x10 Film Choice Paralysis

The boxes are so small, you can easily try several different types. I doubt film choice will make or break an image.

Re: A visit to an art fair

At galleries, do any vendors of color photos discuss the impermanence of the work?

OMG, here we go again. Do a search. Everything that could be said has be said ad nauseam.

  10. Re: Michael Gordon's LF Workshop at Death Valley

I would consider it if it were longer. Three days isn't very long to photograph Death Valley.

Re: Do you use 100% of a LF negative?

If you aren't going to use all of the negative, why not just shoot MF?

I know it will burst your bubble that you are doing something edgy, but your concerns are overblown. Just go out and take some pictures.

    Re: Why Crop?

There are only two reasons to crop:

    1. You composition does not fit the aspect ratio of the camera, or
    2. You could not or did not frame your composition properly at the time you made the image.

Re: Do you use 100% of a LF negative?

I shoot 4x5. I compose to that aspect ratio and print full frame.
  16. Re: DSLR scanning vs Dedicated flatbed scanning.

I replied a couple of years ago. I don't have anything new to add. And I am not interested in going down that rabbit hole with you again.
  17. Re: DSLR scanning vs Dedicated flatbed scanning.

Actually I suggested that you don't show it, but that would have required that you read my post.
  18. Re: DSLR scanning vs Dedicated flatbed scanning.

I just knew he was going to post that bell image.
  19. Re: DSLR scanning vs Dedicated flatbed scanning.

Don't egg him on. He is just going to show us the same stuff he has been showing us for years. Please don't show us the image of the church bell.
  20. Re: DSLR scanning vs Dedicated flatbed scanning.

What exactly is dedicated flatbed scanning? How does it differ from regular flatbed scanning?
  21. Re: Setting up a darkroom inside a shipping container

It seems it is more about the container than the darkroom.

Re: Kodak introduces new x-ray film

My dentist used something connected to a laptop on me yesterday, and showed me the results on a TV. The contraption was larger than to old bitewings of yore and not as comfortable, but I persevered....

Re: Central Camera Chicago & Ilford NEWS

I've been to Central Camera a couple of times in the past few years. I wouldn't call the store modern in any sense. In fact, I am surprised they have a computer to send you an email. It is fun to...
  29. Re: Setting up a darkroom inside a shipping container

I'd wait and see what size house you rent or buy before you go down the container route. You may find that a spare bedroom suffices for a darkroom.
  30. Re: How I enjoy this hobby is not how You enjoy this hobby. Get over it.

It seems to me the classifieds work well. I don't know why Jim Galli has a problem with the way it is set up, nor what precipitated his rant. Bad day at the office?
  31. Re: What does a newbie do nowadays in the printing game?

Never met an RC paper I liked. Why go to all that trouble and use a plastic paper?
  32. Re: importing big files into Adobe lightroom?

  34. Re: Pulling Slide Film to Increase Its Dynamic Range

Sorry. The truth doesn't fit the narrative.
  35. Re: Pulling Slide Film to Increase Its Dynamic Range

I shot slides too. Big deal. I preferred Kodachome. I thought Velvia was too garish. And it was impossible to print on Cibachome. Kodachrome was hard enough. Who cares? Doesn't make you or me an...
  36. Re: Pulling Slide Film to Increase Its Dynamic Range

So much for your Treasured Lands argument. And what about all that commercial work on chromes for publication back in the heyday?
  37. Re: Pulling Slide Film to Increase Its Dynamic Range

Since we only have a choice pf Velvia, Provia, and now Ektachrome again, much of this discussion is moot. Use whatever floats your boat. This "my film is best" argument is tiresome and puerile. All...
