As Rudi says, it made it possible to use the front part only as a landscape lens.
As far as i know it wasn’t meant to correct anything.

    Re: DIY Rigid Fresnel

Mount it (the ridges) towards the grinded side of your ground glass and it will have the same effect.
But than it is protected by the glass

  7. Re: Hermagis Serial numbers Need your help with a database

    Definately not 400mm.
That size is a 300mm lens. I have two with exactly the same size.
  8. Re: Understanding Allen Rumme's Lens Database

My advice when you start with wet plate: workshop.
    After that: start small.
It’s like digital camera’s. The greed for bigger plates is like the greed for more pixels.
    But your picture will not...
  9. Re: Any tips & tricks for operating lenses without own shutter (lens cap on-off)

Take of the cap and hold it in front of the lens instead of pulling it of.
With wet or dry plate it works fine because of the low iso value. No vibration and always ready the exact monent.
  10. Re: Information on Hermagis Petzval Lens

Steven, i don’t think you really need a petzval that big to cover 8x10”.
I have been using 300mm hermagis petzvals for 8x10 without any problem.

If you know the difference between fungus and separation of the balsem you wouldn’t post these links.
Both lenses shown in these links have a separation problem and that’s a totally different thing....

When it is a non coated kens it can't be fungus.
Fungus only grows on coated lenses.

Most of the time the year of build was written on the side of the front glass.

As i love the (swirly) softnes of a petzval i hardly ever stop down a lens.
if you want to stop down a petzcal you can also just use a more modern, smaller lens.

Re: 400mm f4 Charles Shepherd Questions

    A 250mm for 8 x 10"is rather short. It morely will act like a wide-angle.
