Re: Large scans on a student budget?

Where are you located? I have done some scanning for friends using my Creo. Great scans and cheaper than buying a whole set up if you don't need it often.

    Bob -

I don't think I was able to get past 8.5 with HP5+. I can check when I'm in front of my other PC.

Re: Photo Flo In Presoak OK for PMK?

My understanding is that Photoflo is a surfactant and as a result, would be a bad idea. Reducing the surface tension in a developer doesn't really have a purpose.

Is there a current link for this? The original one doesn't resolve to anything but the home page and the About Us has changed.

    Re: Devere 108s 10x10 Enlarger

I've shipped some large and cumbersome items using DHL. Ideally, the shipper would mount it on a pallet, crate it (3/4" plywood screwed into 2x4 supports) and strap it to the pallet. There are some...

What connector does it have? If it is a small round (ex: 3.5mm) then you need an external power supply.

  11. Re: question re metering for zone III and overexposing HP5+ a little

When I was teaching LF photography, 80%+ of the exposure errors came from not understanding what was a deep shadow versus a textured area on the exposure (zone) scale. It was very common to find 1...
  12. Re: question re metering for zone III and overexposing HP5+ a little

That works well and allows you to print down the negative BUT you have to make sure that the development time is correct. For a normal (N) subject, that may be close when using a published stock...
  13. Re: question re metering for zone III and overexposing HP5+ a little

Another note from my years of teaching students - Get your shutter tested. I can't tell you how many times we had to chase exposure problems because the student had a shutter that was fine at (let's...

Re: Stainless Steel Sink & Oxidation / Rust?

It can be a reasonable solution IF the rust is stopped. Oxidation occurs with oxygen.

  15. Re: question re metering for zone III and overexposing HP5+ a little

You don't mention anything about taking a highlight reading or development technique. Both can change your results pretty dramatically.

Re: Stainless Steel Sink & Oxidation / Rust?

I had a 316 stainless sink that had similar stains on the corners. It turns out that the grinding and finishing wheels used to clean up the welds had steel (non-stainless) in them and impregnated the...

  26. Re: What will happen to your negatives in "the end"?

  27. Re: What will happen to your negatives in "the end"?

  28. What will happen to your negatives in "the end"?
