Thanks. I’ll focus, close the lens, fire the shutter, then set the shutter and shoot to be safe.

    Seiko shutter question

I picked up a lens in a Seiko S-1 shutter. I’ve never dealt with a Seiko LF shutter before and can’t seem to find much online. I see that to open the lens for focusing, I must first cock the...

Re: Apertures for Zeiss Triple Convertible

And to make it even more complicated, I have a Series VII 240mm lens with VIII on the barrel. It’s an indicator of the barrel size.

Re: Apertures for Zeiss Triple Convertible

Isn’t the aperture change the reason you use the single element behind the aperture.
OP, B&L licensed the Protar from Zeiss so for the Protar V and Vii, the lenses are the same. For the most part...

Re: 510 Pyro - First Impressions

Jay often said he would release his developers almost like beta version software - for the photo community to comment on and improve. Looks like we’re doing just that.

    Re: Lens coating test

The MSDS of the recommended ROR says it includes alcohol and ammonia. I’ve read warnings against using both of those chemicals. Can this really be safely used?

    Lens coating test

I have a lens that has “spots” in the front coating. Cleaning does not remove them. I want to test to see if they cause problems in the image, so what should I photograph for the tests? Clear open...

I’m always experimenting. Knowing what I did when I got something right is sometimes helpful.
  11. Re: Welp, I did it, I ordered a lightweight 8x10

What kind of weight can these surveyors tripods hold? One of the laser thingies the surveyors use seems to be about 12-pounds. I don’t think that’s enough for 8x10, is it?

    Re: Pleasure of creative expression.

I’ve lately worked at having what I think of as a more expansive photographic vision - seeing better relationships within my images. I find that to be the same as playing music (trombone, bass...

One of the chemists over on APUG (Gerald Koch?) told me years ago that for photographic purposes there’s no difference.

    Re: Giving Voice..

When many if not most folks speak of subject, they refer to a physical object in the photo. Is that what’s meant here?
  15. Re: Creative ways of mounting largish lenses on smallish lensboards?

I’ve made step up lens boards with a metal piece at the camera end for handling the weight and wood for the rest.

  17. Re: How To Create Dense & Contrasty Film Negs For Alt Prints?

I’ve done more albumen than salt printing, but my thoughts would be the same.

I don’t think you need a more dense negative. More contrast, yes, but not more overall density.

    I think the...

Fred Picker made a little U-shaped piece from spring steel. It extended a bit farther back than the rear lens element. He used a magnet to hold the filter gel in place behind the lens.
