  2. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

you need a deep red safelight with hr-u, especially when it's wet.
  3. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

hr-u replaced hr-t at some point if that helps, basically the same. x-ray films come in "green" or "blue" versions for use with green or blue x-ray phosphor screens. blue is plain silver halides, so...

  5. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

whatever your issue is, it's not the film, unless you got a bad box that was stored improperly or something. hr-u green should be perfectly useable at iso 100 or higher.

  7. Re: F/9.0 lenses, what's your tips/trick for better viewing?

    sunglasses help.
  8. Re: F/9.0 lenses, what's your tips/trick for better viewing?

it'll fill in the frosted surface, making it smoother, which means the light doesn't get diffused as widely, so it's brighter.
  9. Re: F/9.0 lenses, what's your tips/trick for better viewing?

rub a bit of grease on the center of your gg to brighten it up. not ideal, but it'll do in a pinch.

    Re: 4x5 macro advice needed

  11. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

should take the same amount of developer to get the same amount of silver at the end. maybe more fixer.
  12. Re: Schneider Super-Angulon 75mm and Vignetting on 4x5?

with a short focal length lens you also need a short focal length fresnel.

Re: Equivalent in 35 mm terms

both of those are wrong, but kinda close. lots of those crappy online calculators just assume that 4x5 is actually 4"x5", 5x7's 5"x7", etc.

Re: Equivalent in 35 mm terms

measure the diagonal of a 5x7 negative in mm, just the useable image area without the edges of the film, then divide by 43mm to get the crop factor for 35mm and divide 610 by that number.

Re: Red Bulb for Nuarc Safelight?

if you want to eliminate unwanted frequencies of light as much as humanly possible, get a laser diode rather than an led.

Re: Fresnel, GG and focussing questions

if the fresnel and gg are the same thickness, you can mount the gg in front as long as the frosted side is on the back. the fresnel can be installed either way or left out if you want.

Re: How to imitate the contrast of wet plate

wet plate is not orthochromatic or "red blind". it's a plain silver halide emulsion, uv, violet and blue sensitive. a blue-violet passing filter will work fine.
