Sorry to...
Edward Weston, an alumnus of the Illinois College of Photography, was born on this date in 1886.
Ah, thank you for posting the book link. I now have a better understanding of what Monty has in mind.
I, too. Thank you, Doremus.
Best,
Merg
Terrific! Well seen, Roger.

Sounds wonderful, Monty; you are going to have a lot of fun!
I'm also a fan of natural light for a studio. Have you considered including skylights?
Looking forward to hearing the progress of...
An essay addressing this subject, written by Edward Weston almost eighty years ago, is pertinent today.

In the #3rd original photo the bellows appear to being pinched. Just maybe?

I'm guessing the problem is with the bellows fold. Can you remove the back and check the fold?
You are absolutely right, Alan. I wouldn't trade the one day there in 2006 for the ninety days in '63.
Hope you are keeping well, and safe.

Edward Weston never owned property in Carmel Valley, nor did he have a portrait studio in Monterey. The Wildcat Hill property in the Carmel Highlands was deeded to him by Charis after their divorce....

Thanks Dugan, and Michael -
Drafted in 1963, my infantry training was at Fort Ord. The base was closed in 1994, and I returned in 2006, making this photograph from inside the old base laundry...
Interest to me, David. I was working as a photographer on the UC Campus during the period you mention, and later. I was hired in 1961 as staff photographer and lab technician in the Graphic Arts...
Contact print 4x5 and 8x10. Enlargements nominal 8x10 to 16x20, depending on image. Small prints can be powerful!

Beautifully done in every way, Jim. I am always impressed with your passion, and where it takes you. Congratulations!

Thank you, Graham, Gregg, and Pat.

Agree. Also, it would make dodging and burning difficult, unless you are making only straight prints. Small contact prints can be real gems!
As Peter says, contrast of your contact prints will be varied by using graded paper. Lodima and the old Azo are graded papers, as in numbers #1 to #4, or similar. Higher the number, greater the...

Just received the aforementioned book accompanying the exhibition. Nicely done, a must for Carl's fans. Available at the museum store or through Amazon.

Thanks Alan, always good to hear from you. Haha, those years as an architectural photographer are fond memories, working with creative individuals.

Hope you get to see the exhibit, Renato. Should be a real treat! A 75 page catalog (book?) will be available at the museum store, and later in the month at Amazon.
Also my first impression, Jackson Pollock. Very well seen and captured. Congratulations, lassethomas.
As an update, for those subscribed to this thread and missed the announcement of Carl's retrospective at the Eastman Museum, take note: https://www.eastman.org/carl-chiarenza-journey-unknown

Brings back the nightmare memories of mixed source lighting and CC filters.
Nicely done, Philip. Strand and Walter might agree.

As noted, letter is for surface, number is for grade. Kodabromide was available in grades 2 to 5. I used the DW for my commercial work in the 60's to 80's due to availability. Works well in Dektol, a...
