Ditto. I turned 69 in September and am definitely slowing down. I just moved from Massachusetts to Arizona, and hoping this is my last move.

Northeast Photographic https://www.northeastphotographic.com/ does large format C41 and E-6. I don't know how large they go, but it's worth an inquiry.
I am very nearsighted, too (about -5 diopter) with a little astigmatism in my left eye. I am also in my 60s, so I have little to no accommodation left. I use Toyo 8x10 and Toyo 4x5 field cameras. The...
It does sound exactly reversed - like your desk lamp is plugged into the safelight socket on the timer.
If the developer powder has any brown tint, it has started to oxidize, probably because of a leak in the container. Throw it out if so.
Congratulations!
The PSF is not simple to calculate or understand. Using the terminology of linear systems theory, the PSF is indeed the impulse response of the lens. It depends on the aberrations present, the...
I use a flat lensboard with 90mm Schneider Super Angulon with no problem on my 45AII.
Do you need the recessed board? No.
Could you use the recessed board? Yes, but why? Unless you already have...
There is also an article on the subject at

Bob, by my count you got "third" and "fourth" reversed in this comment.

I have some photo-flo that I've been using for about 50 years, and it was old when I got it. It seems to work fine.
Here’s a photo. I use them (as well as 8x10 hangers) in one-gallon stainless 8x10 tanks. They hold up to six hangers and show up on the bay fairly cheap.

I can tell they are designed to fit in 8x10 tanks, and that's how I use mine. I'll measure mine when I get home tonight, unless someone else has a quicker answer.

I did the same with a plywood sink I made 20 years ago. I then painted with epoxy marine paint as others have mentioned. Alas, I was divorced soon after and had to leave it behind.
About 50 years...
You can also use rise/fall to prevent vertical lines from converging, as will happen when you point your 35mm up to capture tall trees or buildings.
I remember hearing (reading?) that Edward Weston did this. His famous Pepper #30 was done in a similar way (he put the front element back on), and I recall the exposure was several hours at f/256.

Now that I see your photo of the effect, it must be something else, but I'm not sure what. I assume you're worried about the large-diameter ring that is well outside the image.
I suspect the problem is caused by reflection from the underside of the negative carrier, after reflecting from the lens or unpainted lens cone. The early negative carriers were bare aluminum on top...
I built a home darkroom a couple of years ago and have an Omega D2V enlarger for 4x5 and smaller and a Beseler 45MX with 8x10 conversion head for 8x10. The two enlargers sit on a heavy steel table of...
Greetings from the outer suburbs of Boston. I agree that 4x5 is the way to start in large format. This is what I did almost 50 years ago, as a teenager. 8x10 was simply unaffordable then. Even now,...
Thanks for posting this. I recently bought an f64 pack for 8x10 but I haven't tried any long hikes with it. It's nice to know there's a good alternative.
Cooke Optics is still making their Triple Convertible Lens as well as a 4x5 portrait lens. Badger Graphics lists several “analog” Rodenstock lenses available by special order.
I have several Fujinon lenses. They are all excellent.
I have one of these timers. I just tested it in “test strip” mode. It does not work as you describe.
The first exposure is indeed 2.83 s, but the next exposure is enough to bring the total...
I’ve seen them on the Bay. It might take some patience.
I don’t know anything about FotoKemika, but my 8x10 enlarger head takes 12” filters. It’s a Beseler 45 with 8x10 conversion head.

I heard a paper by Dave Shafer at the recent International Optical Design Conference on this subject. He worked with Salvador Dali, who wanted to make stereo pairs of paintings and wanted Dave to...
Kodak has introduced a new magazine, confusingly named Kodachrome:

So they have introduced Kodachrome, but not...
Shorter focal length. I think the focal length of the Fresnel should be about the same as that of your taking lens.

Welcome to the forum, Matthew. I am another voice from New England, in nearby Tyngsboro MA. I shoot 4x5 and 8x10, as well as 6x7 and Noblex panorama. I got my first 4x5 camera almost 50 years ago,...
I bought a Toyo 45AII kit a couple years ago that came with a 75mm. I found it a bit wide for my taste, and bought a 90mm f/8 Super Angulon. I chose it for the smaller size, weight, and price...
You can test whether stopping down is helping to block the damaged parts of the lens by doing the following:
- with the lens mounted on the camera, aim the camera at a dark background.
- shine a...
I have an Omega D2V that I bought almost 50 years ago. It still works fine. I also have a Beseler 45MXT with 8x10 conversion head that I bought a year or so ago. The Beseler is sturdier and less...

I spoke to the owner. Apparently someone from the Collodion Bastards facebook page asked him if he could make these lenses, and he said he could. His main business is consulting and making optical...
This is interesting. I am well-acquainted with the founder of the company. I will contact him to find out what's up.

Midwinter update: cold water temp is 39F. Last August it was up above 80F and I resorted to keeping gallon bottles of water around for wash water when developing film. I would fill up 10 or so...
Schneider made center filters 3 and III for various lenses. See
