    Re: Large Format Landscapes

I use Dropbox, but I had to use that for work. Maybe Google Drive?
  2. Re: Rebuilding a Deardorff 11x14 Studio Stand

Yeah, I'll try that first before doing any machining. Did you get your camera platform moving ok?

That's great, Daniel! I look forward to hearing how it works for you.
  5. Re: Rebuilding a Deardorff 11x14 Studio Stand

Thanks, Jason! I'm trying to decide between using the 1/8th thick curve I have and adding something on the back, or whether I should try to machine a piece from 1/4" thick stock.
  6. Re: Has there ever been a retrofocus wide that covers 4x5/9x12 or larger?

Maybe the 125, 100, and 80mm Fuji GX lenses, the ones for the GX680 systerm? They fit in Seiko shutters.

    Aperture

This might be useful if you have a lens without an aperture?

    Re: 8x10 Coverage Fujinon-W 210mm f5.6?

An important question is what type of photography do you do? How close to infinity do you focus, and how important is detail/sharpness in the corners of the image? As you focus closer, the image...
  9. Re: Rebuilding a Deardorff 11x14 Studio Stand

The main depression will hold a piece 1/8" thick. I bent a piece of aluminum stock around the upright and cut off a section. With a little corner filing, it fits in the depression just fine....

    "Yes" to all the questions.
  13. Re: Rebuilding a Deardorff 11x14 Studio Stand

    Good tips, Randy. Thanks!
  14. Re: First Forey Into 8x10 Format/ Intrepid 8x10 Camera

There are two of them. One has longer bellows than the other. Pre-WWII ones had a tripod block, but the ones after don't. They are good, solid cameras. I'm currently restoring one of these.
  15. Re: Rebuilding a Deardorff 11x14 Studio Stand

Well, I've never work with steel. Heat it up and pound to shape? I do have two sections of cut off pipe from the stand. I could jigsaw out two pieces. The curves should be close, and maybe I...
  16. Re: Rebuilding a Deardorff 11x14 Studio Stand

The recess for the shoe looks like this:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/v8ygvlt3zh4xz6i/IMG_3106.JPG?raw=1

I looks like a 1/4" thick piece about 1-5/8" x 2.25" and curved to fit the pipe should...
  17. Re: Rebuilding a Deardorff 11x14 Studio Stand

I've done some 3d printing, but I'm not very impressed with durability, at least with the printers/materials I have access to. My plan was to use a good hardwood for the replacements, probably...
  18. Re: First Forey Into 8x10 Format/ Intrepid 8x10 Camera

There's a tripod plate with a 2D, which you don't have to use if light weight is a priority.
  19. Re: First Forey Into 8x10 Format/ Intrepid 8x10 Camera

No direct front tilt with a 2D. I don't have one anymore, and so I can't weigh it. They're quite light, and they're better built than an Intrepid.

    Re: Intrepid 8x10 experiences?

The Intrepid uses Sinar-style boards, although they have to have rounded corners. I use a Sinar to Toyo field adapter from Ebay, as my 4x5 lenses are all on Toyo 110mm boards. (Toyo makes bigger...
  22. Re: First Forey Into 8x10 Format/ Intrepid 8x10 Camera

You can get older, better built cameras cheaper, but you may have to do some refurbishing, which takes some skill and tools. For instance, I bought an Agfa 8x10 from the 1950s not that long ago for...
  23. Re: Rebuilding a Deardorff 11x14 Studio Stand

Thanks, Randy! But please don't go to any Herculean effort. They shouldn't be too hard to make, if needed.

  25. Re: Rebuilding a Deardorff 11x14 Studio Stand

I'm pretty sure that mine are the same as Jason's. There's a lever on each side of the sleeves that rides the columns that moves a cam on the inside, obviously to press a fitting against the...
  26. Re: Rebuilding a Deardorff 11x14 Studio Stand

My stand was in good shape, but it had some rust on the bottom of the base. I also had some on a Century Centennial stand. These parts are black cast iron. What I've done is to clean them off...

  28. Re: LED UV Light Box: Build Your Own for Under $150

    Ok. Gotchya.
  33. Re: Where are the great shots? Am I a cynicist or a realist?

I'm sure you're right about Gugenheim Fellowships or MacArthur Grants, and contemporary academic photography, but Enlightenment-style thinkers are hitting back in other areas, such as Steven Pinker...
  34. Re: Where are the great shots? Am I a cynicist or a realist?

You're only a "true artist" if you make your living selling your art? I would call that being a professional artist. Isn't post-modernism itself getting a bit long in the tooth?

    This is a bit...

Yes, the adapter plugs into the sata drive, and the ide cable plugs into the adapter. Your software looks like it should work fine formatting the new drive.

I just did a scan, and everything turned out fine. The SSD makes the G4 significantly faster. Before upgrading, check what Mac you have. In particular, check the maximum hard drive size. Many are...
