    Re: Fujinon-A 360mm f/10 picture examples

Since this thread has come back top life, fyi, my Fuji W 360mm lens does cover 11x14, but I need to keep it stopped down to f/22 or smaller for landscapes. It is working out nicely.

Re: Lens questions from a new 4x5 shooter

I favor a 150mm/5.6 plasmat as a first lens. Caltar being an excellent choice for quality and cost. but as others mentioned, any of the big names as long as the shutter, most likely a Copal 0,...

    Re: Infinity or Hyper Focal?

There are small range-finders, optical or laser, on the market. For golfers, hunters, etc. You could mark your camera for certain distances.

Re: Rethinking my 4x5 Field Camera choice

Right on, Bernice. Field cameras are field cameras...not designed for old brass monster lenses.

I'd keep the field camera and just get adapter boards for the other cameras to take the Technica...
  5. Re: Your Best Photograph from the Previous Month - Critique and Discussion Encouraged

Yes, I know! But that risk is higher when I am taking photographs than any other time -- sometimes I have to ask myself if a 65 yr old should be up here with 60 pounds of equipment. I usually have...
  6. Re: Your Best Photograph from the Previous Month - Critique and Discussion Encouraged

On the second image I had set the 5x7 up to photograph the light along Bridalvail Creek from across the road. As I was setting up, these open-air Valley Tour buses would pass by like clockwork. ...
  7. Re: Your Best Photograph from the Previous Month - Critique and Discussion Encouraged

Thanks, Steven. The second one as a 5x7 contact print works nicely in one's hands, tho it would be fun to see it large.

It was a full sized tour bus, you can see its outlines as it passed through...

It ends up mattering a great deal to me. I contact only, no cropping, so one reason to retake it in a larger format is to have a bigger print of a scene and its light. Since I often include the...

I do not know. For sharper images, a yellow filter is recommended when using one element by itself to correct for the blue light not being focused properly.

Re: Photographs Shot Using Your 11x14 Camera

Modifying a darkslide would not work well as it does does 5.5x14 (or 4x10). I would probably devise some sort of splitter for inside the camera that blocks half the film from being exposed.

Re: DOF on 8x10 vs. 4x5?

But in practice, to "re-take" the same 4x5 image with the same lens, one would have to move the 8x10 camera closer to frame it the same. This would give you less DoF even at the same f/stop...and a...
  21. Re: Head and Shoulder Portrait Lens for 11x14 Camera

How about a Turner Reich for 11x14...a 12/21/28? One might not have enough bellows for a head and shoulders with the 28" element, but the 21" might just be the ticket. Known to be slightly soft...
  22. Re: Recommendations for a general purpose lens for a Calumet 4x5?

On Photrio, there is a Nikon 180/5.6 for sale for $215 plus shipping from Japan (good seller). It's hard to find a good shutter for that price.
  23. Re: Head and Shoulder Portrait Lens for 11x14 Camera

Ideals are always expensive. One thing to consider is if the 11x14 has the bellows draw for the ideal portrait lens and a head & shoulder image. Isn't that getting close to a 1:1 image on the...
  24. Re: Recommendations for a general purpose lens for a Calumet 4x5?

A Caltar IIN 150mm/5.6 would do you very well as a high quality starter lens. Or the same in 180mm, though not as common. Similar focal lengths, speed, and age by Scheinder, Nikon, Fuji, Rodenstock...
