    Upgrading a lens shutter

I have a Rodenstock Rotelar 270mm f5.6 lens in a Graphic Syncro Compuur shutter. I hate the fiddly way the preview works with this shutter and wouldnt mind replacing the shutter with a newer style...
  3. Re: Beseler 45MCRX motor struggles when raising

The counterbalance spring may be showing its age. I dont know if its possible to retension it to provide more lift. Until you can find a solution give the carriage a little lift with your hand while...
  4. Re: Seized lens? C.P. Goerz Rapid Paraplanat II

Since the screw is out have you tried tapping the ring towards the back of the lens to see if it will slip off the barrel?
  5. Re: Seized lens? C.P. Goerz Rapid Paraplanat II

A hair dryer may do the job to heat it.
  6. Re: Seized lens? C.P. Goerz Rapid Paraplanat II

You dont want so much it gets on the diaphragm blades, so go easy with the oil. If it does break loose you may be able to finish the disassembly and do a proper cleaning.
  7. Re: Seized lens? C.P. Goerz Rapid Paraplanat II

Probably a bit of corrosion and dirt in the aperture ring. A drop of penetrating oil at the rings contact point to the barrel, use the stuff sparingly, and try to work it. If it doesnt break loose in...
  8. Re: Disastrous Consequences (solved: fog with Intrepid lensboard)

Makes me wonder why the copper clad FR4 was not used as the metal would make the board quite light tight especially if the extra coating is used.

Re: Use 4x5 Beseler for smaller film?

The condenser bellows is adjustable for the format allowing it to focus the beam smaller when running it out to the 35mm end of the scale so you dont lose that much light. Its a very versatile...

    Re: Large Format Landscapes

The colors on this last one looks to me more normal “as the eye would see it” as far as color balance and saturation. Definitely dont like the odd color hues in the clouds on the previous images.

    Re: Beseler Universal 45 Assistance

Also be on the lookout for electrolytic capacitors that may go bad. If possible best practice is to replace them with identical value tantalum capacitors which have no electrolyte to dry out.

Re: Crown Graphic w/ Missing Back Parts

You are likely missing the rangefinder cam causing it not to work. The framing guide is called a sportsfinder which was used for framing prefocused quick shots of sporting type action. The focus...

    Re: Large Format Landscapes

I would try to print darker so the natural vignetting can do its thing and work on the color balance, those clouds look too red but dont know if that would make everything else look off if corrected.

Polaris is not super bright and not precisely on axis with the earths rotation. Thats probably why its not as distinct as you expected

Re: Chasing star trails with an 8x10

Personally I would use Acros for its reciprocity characteristics. Faster film will give you fatter trails on the bright stars so you should previsualise with that in mind.

  23. Re: Exposure, Light Leak or Darkroom Issues?

You need to fix that light leak at the lens board before doing anything else. Any light leak of any kind will cause serious problems.

A very old technique in portraiture to darken skin tones, used mainly for masculine portraits is the use of a green filter. This may accentuate scarring a bit too much so a light green may be a good...

Id be careful to use the lowest heat as many of the alt processes are sensitive to heat and may fog.

You did good. Did you use the jumpers supplied with them to link several bars together So you have fewer plugs to deal with? I did mine in sets of two so I had four plugs run into a power strip.
