    Re: Buying guide 8 x 10

I agree with Mark. I have an 8x10 Deardorff & love it. It was a working camera and shows it. But it can do whatever I want. BTW I do have an 8x10 enlarger & the difference in quality is minimal on...

Re: Help getting started with an Imagon 300

The flashlight advice is pretty standard focusing procedure in the film industry for Asst. Cameramen. It works!

Re: Help getting started with an Imagon 300

I have to respectfully disagree with Bob. I have the 300 Imagon & a 200 Imagon and have made photographs in flat light. I think what Bob was referring to is not the light so much as the contrast of...

  10. Re: Alternative to traditional pinhole on an 8x10

When I stayed at Wild Cat Hill and spoke with Kim Weston, he said that a lot of those images were made over the course of a day long exposure. He didn't mention anything about pin hole lenses. ...
  11. Re: Alternative to traditional pinhole on an 8x10

I determined the focal length of my pinhole lenses, compose with a "normal" lens of the same focal length, then swap it out for the pinhole lens. Works great.

Re: Wollensak 6 1/4" infinity focus

Depending on the lens design, your 5 1/4" could be accurate. And, like you said, I'd base my bellows factor on the 5 1/4" base.

    Enjoy your shooting.

Re: Case for Lenses on Boards?

My Sinar came with a Sinar case that has two boxes with slots that fit the lens boards. The boxes fit in the designed case one on top of the other. The camera hangs inside. It's a bit heavy, but...

  17. Re: Canned-air discharge caused mark on lens. Removal suggestions?

I keep a tank of Nitrogen in my darkroom for both lenses & negs (pressure set at 90 psi). Works great, never had a problem.

Re: 90mm Schneider 4x5 lens problem?

You really might want to process one sheet of film directly from the box to see if it's a film problem and not a camera problem.

Re: 90mm Schneider 4x5 lens problem?

Put the film back in the holder in the orientation it was when you shot the image. Set the bellows distance the same as it was when you shot it. This will indicate where the light exposed the film....

Keep all the gear in the cold. You won't have lens condensation problems, nor other condensation issues.

    Re: Homemade lens for 8X10

Nice work. I made a lens with a magnifying glass. It's a swirly impressionistic lens. Fun stuff.
  38. Re: Want to replace Chamonix, field camera or medium format suggestions?

I use a Deardorff V8 with reducing backs. I love the way it works. I use a Pentax 67 for MF and it's very easy to use -- it's just a big version of the 35mm camera. Good luck!
  39. Re: Schneider Super-Angulon 90 mm f/5.6 ND center filter

Yes. The image from the lens is closer to the film at the center and the image has to travel further to the film at the edges. The filter is correct for very wide lenses.
