I think Ilford has been selling direct in the UK for a while. Not is the US, AFAIK.

    Re: LPL 4500 or a....

I suspect most users stuck with the default 4x5 mixing box even if they used the enlarger for 35mm. I certainly don't swap the mixing box when I print smaller formats.

    The replacement 4x5 mixing...

    Re: LPL 4500 or a....

I've been using an LPL 4500II with color head for B&W printing on variable-contrast papers since 1993, have been happy with it. Low fuss compared to old-battleship enlargers like the classic Omegas...

    Re: 6.5x8.5

I own both Chamonix and Eastman WP holders and I've owned Rittreck ones as well. The Chamonix holders are closer to the Eastman ones - they fit my Eastman No. 2, while the Rittreck holders did not.

    Re: 6.5x8.5

Greg, what you're talking about is the variation in dimensions of block-form holders in the WP format. And that is a real issue. But the OP is asking about a camera that takes book-form holders,...

    Re: 6.5x8.5

The old Japanese whole-plate cameras that you see on eBay generally take proprietary book-form film/plate holders rather than modern block-form film/plate holders like the Rittreck holders. You...

    Re: Tetenal single roll kits

Shades of Ilford's recently-introduced "Simplicity Starter Pack" for B&W. But given the cost, I'm not sure how much sense this would make for developing sheet film.

    Re: Schneider 58mm XL datasheet

  17. Re: Measuring the light using a digital camera

That's good! Calibrating one of the camera's non-trick metering modes against a hand-held meter of known performance is certainly a reasonable approach.
  18. Re: Measuring the light using a digital camera

The thread was started by someone who doesn't have a separate meter yet and at least for now wants to proceed without it.
  19. Re: Scanning Resolution on Epson V-750 Scanner?

Larry - please search the Forum, in particular the Digital Hardware and Digital Processing subforums. There is endless, repetitive discussion already about the questions you raise.
  20. Re: Measuring the light using a digital camera

Everything that Tin Can has been saying.

Digital camera ISO ratings and metering calibration are designed by the manufacturer to expose a digital sensor without excessively clipping the highlights...
  21. Re: Alert about a possible problem batch of Xtol

The concern is that this may be a re-occurrence of the problem that Kodak had with the smaller Xtol packages years ago, with the package seal failing and allowing moisture to get in.
  22. Re: Measuring the light using a digital camera

The histogram is based on the current jpg settings of the camera. Careful calibration may be required to determine jpg and ISO settings on a digital camera that yield histogram behavior that maps...
  23. Re: Measuring the light using a digital camera

Apologies if this is obvious, but if you use a late-model digital camera as a meter, be careful not to use the default evaluating metering mode - those apply various unspecified scene-based...
  24. Re: Alert about a possible problem batch of Xtol

Examine the A packet closely - I think that's where the reported problems have been. If the stuff isn't free-flowing powder as expected - if it's clumped or otherwise atypical - then save your...

  26. Alert about a possible problem batch of Xtol

There is an alert about a possible problem batch of Xtol (2019/08/09) following the recent shift in manufacture:

  31. Re: Has there ever been a retrofocus wide that covers 4x5/9x12 or larger?

Couldn't get the board out for an exact measurement just now, but my Super D looks to be somewhere in the 170-180mm range.

Scott, that is spectacular - thank you for sharing!

  32. Re: Has there ever been a retrofocus wide that covers 4x5/9x12 or larger?

Dunno off the top of my head, but I have a 4x5 Super D, will look at that sometime later today after I've gotten some work responsibilities out of the way. But yes, the standard FL on the 4x5 Super...
  33. Re: Has there ever been a retrofocus wide that covers 4x5/9x12 or larger?

I'll make it more concrete: shorter-than-normal (where normal = format diagonal) lenses with FFD long enough for the rear cell to clear the mirror of a Graflex in the respective format.
  34. Has there ever been a retrofocus wide that covers 4x5/9x12 or larger?

I know the reasons why you're supposed to not want one. My question is simply whether such a beast actually exists. Can't find anything in the VM or in the second edition of Ray.
  35. Re: Epson V850 work-around for scanning 5x7 negatives.

I get artifacts in my V700 scans when I have AN glass on top of the negative, I think generated by reflections from the extra glass surface. Often my film stays flat even without; otherwise the...
  36. Re: Graflex SLR Issues Usage DIY & Improvements?

I have a Graflok-converted 4x5 Super D. Apparently you can get a drop curtain speed of ~1/10 too, at the higher spring tension. Unfortunately, the flash sync on mine is not functioning. I'd like...
  37. Re: Epson V850 work-around for scanning 5x7 negatives.

Yes. Emulsion side down. That's what I do.

IMO 300 samples per inch is too low if one intends to print the scans, but with sheet film there are difficult tradeoffs to be made between scan...

Re: Rethinking my 4x5 Field Camera choice

Minimum flange-to-film on my late-model 4x5 Nagaoka is about 55mm. Of course, no useful movement at that point, but if I extend it for a 75, there's a bit of wiggle room. I'd guess that the older...
