  1. Re: Journey to build a new darkroom - Build log

Good luck with your exciting project.

I started my darkroom when we moved into your current home in 1994. I had an alcove in the garage that I had walled off with a door in the middle. Since...

Re: Trying Out An Arca D4 Tripod Head

    That's a nice setup.

Out of curiosity, why the leveler, given that the D4 rotates on the top and the bottom? I'm thinking that the D4 itself levels the rotating adapter at the top?

Re: Trying Out An Arca D4 Tripod Head

I've thought about the 410 on occasion. But, I didn't care for its asymmetrical design. And, I didn't care for the quick release system that was inherent in it's construction. I mentioned the two...

Re: Cameras with geared swing movement

The one essential for me is geared rise/fall on at least one of the front or rear standards. So much more convenient. After that, manual swings or tilt is fine.

If a medium format view camera...

Re: Trying Out An Arca D4 Tripod Head

It was a little tough removing mine; I had to apply quite a bit of leverage But as opposed to Loctite, the screw and threaded hole were coated with a lubricant. So, it wasn't a problem.

    Alan,

Thanks for your post. It never occurred to me that the narrower clamp was meant for rails, versus the optical bench. As it turns out, I have Type I rails, so it wouldn't work for me....

Re: Trying Out An Arca D4 Tripod Head

    Hugo,

Sorry; I misread "level" in your post to be leveler. (In fact, RRS sells a leveler as well.)

Your new clamp should easily attach to the top of the D4. One uses the correctly sized Allen...

Re: Trying Out An Arca D4 Tripod Head

I did, and it doesn't even come close. The 2-step clamp D4 was more expensive. Better to spend less than $40 on the 3rd party, non-Arca clamp that I ordered. And, the 2-step clamp looked...

Re: Trying Out An Arca D4 Tripod Head

By my way of thinking, you wouldn't need a leveling base. Because it rotates both on the bottom and on the top, the two geared tilts on the D4 themselves become the leveler. But, I'm not sure how...

Trying Out An Arca D4 Tripod Head
