    sound is not a measure of light entering the camera.

    if you are using a diy gizmo that uses a microphone, just substitute a photo transistor in its place.

    regardless of how you get them clean, you still have to lubricate it.

    using the bath in white gas works very well in most cases to disolven remove built up gunk.

    but you still need to lubricate using the right lubes in the correct spots for it to work properly....
