  1. Re: question about Deardorff and the 1939 world's fair

A lovely camera. I'd sure like to have one again sometime; I did have one years ago, but that was stolen from my studio. There are plenty of better cameras around now, but I still miss the Baby.

    Re: Deardorff Identification Help

It is good to get the scoop on this from Ken. I was really baffled by the bed since it looked original, but like no Deardorff I've ever seen.
  3. Re: Film base for use with rotating cameras (eg Cirkut, Roundshot)

I always assumed those were roll film base. I know there used to be some sheet film base film sold for Cirkut by someone else. I fail to see how it could work well in a Cirkut, but he apparently sold...

Re: Goerz Dagor F6.8 Series III no.3

I think your age estimate is likely to be about right if that is what the serial number charts say, though it has never been clear to me what versions those cover. It certainly looks much older than...
  5. Re: extended red sensitivity panchromatic b/w

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "the furnace came out black". Black in the prints? The inside of the furnace wouldn't make sense, so I assume you are talking about the less lit areas and I...

    Re: 5x7 Deardorff lensboard

Yes. You will need to know the actual Deardorff to know that. I have a variety of board and adapters in both sizes, though my camera takes 4x4" which I've standardized on. Let me know if you need...
  7. Re: Very neat artice by the New Yorker on Thomas Joshua Cooper

I waited for my issue to come to read the article. I finished it yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Cooper's images remind me in many ways of Minor White's work. Cooper does cite White as an...

    Re: My Dream lens.

The pictures look great. Apertures used for the photos would be helpful. Perhaps you stated that earlier, but it would still be useful with each picture so as not to have to reread.
  9. Re: What camera to shoot with out in the field when using HEAVY lenses?

I did something sort of similar to Cameron's approach on his Eastman. But I had a Deardorff and new 16" Vitax I wanted to try. That is one heavy lens, way heavier than a Dallmeyer 3a. I made a...

Re: cost expectations for 8x10 restoration

I don't know the answer to that, but will chip in with a different take. Over the years I've had about a dozen Deardorffs and at least a dozen Cirkut Cameras, plus assorted Eastman 2D's, Anscos, and...
  11. Re: Besler 45 V-XL non functioning elevation lock

The motor was an option for these. My lock keeps it in place, but unlocks with any intentional movement of the elevation control. I like this enlarger, but find most of the controls to be a bit...

What camera? Are those the clear edges of the negative showing or something else? It would be nice to see the whole neg, including clear edges if included.

  14. Re: Continuous Processing with Dektol or PolyMax RT???

Roller transport machines use a replenished system so that is probably the reason for that recommendation. I often end up using Dektol for film processing in tubes and it works great. Reusing the...
  15. Re: (Talk me out of) offering people at scenic tourist site to have their LF photo ta

A large format camera does get a different reaction from people. You have to remember though that most people don't even know you can still buy film; at least that is the reaction I get from a wide...

    Re: Best enlarging lenses

"New" Nikkor, which are now mostly very old. The earlier models are fine, but the redesigned versions are really great (see the Ctein mention earlier). 50/2.8, 63/28, and 80mm (5.6 I think) are easy...
  21. Re: Help identify this older press or technical (?) camera

  25. Re: CC Harrison - how to gauge focal length from a picture

  26. Re: 1st, 2d, or 3rd click on tension spring for an early 5x7 Press Graflex?

This is an early camera and they were still sorting stuff out. I wouldn't be surprised if this confusion is why they went to blanks appearing between. It really isn't any different beyond an extra...

  31. Re: 1st, 2d, or 3rd click on tension spring for an early 5x7 Press Graflex?

It is nice to see some Graflex interest here again. I've been learning about Graflex lately and getting a few good results on 4x5 and 3x4.

  37. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

  40. Re: New Resource for Wollensak Lenses and Shutters

I do see a mistake in that the Velostigmat series 1 is not a double Protar like the 1a, but air spaced cells said to be much like the later Cooke triple convertible. I doubt that...
