Anyone have an idea what this Dallmeyer 3b actually sold for? 281921191775
That is a bargain what was the condition?
I measure the fixed aperture in the lens body - ( that opening / fixture that holds the waterhouse stops). I do a little math and calculate the area of that opening. I calculate what half of that...
Certainly would have scared me off - not the scratch but the stiff aperture ring as result of the drop. Since we don't know how high the winners actual bid was ( just what it took to win) I guess...
That Vitax No 2 was one of the cleanest I have seen in a long time...
Screws sizes are also available in "odd" sizes, not just even. The big box stores will have 2's 4's 6's a specialty supplier will have 1's, 3's 5's etc....
I was noticing that the aperture scales also changed in the later lenses. Some are "wide open" with the adjustment lever fully clockwise others completely "stopped down".
Has any one ever tried...
I was wondering if anyone had ever repaired one- I only found one screw on the outside of the body - There is a second screw that "appears" to attach the adjustment "knob" inside the body.
J.h dallmeyer portrait patent 4b - $3,568.89 - 131336338657
Those lenses WILL NEVER SELL for those prices. A stop faster is a huge difference - go price a modern 300mm f4 vs a 300 f2.8 - If you hold onto your lens long enough you will be able to break...
The two lenses you have links to are faster f4 lenses. One is a longer focal length and covers Whole Plate the other is the same focal length covers 5x8. Neither one of them is worth the prices...
Here is what you seek

Must be the accent. ;)
It sounds like it is working as designed now - Remember this was designed in the days of ISO 10 film - exposures were in seconds.
Solvents are bad - if they migrate to the aperture / shutter...
Sorry I yelled ;) You can probably safely take the release mechanism off the outside of the lens and make sure the piston is free - If you can safely disassemble it, clean it with a little...
DON'T EVEN THINK OF OILING ANYTHING! I'm serious if you don't know what your doing then don't. The shutter mechanism is just dirty, try just gently exercising it with the lever. The aperture...
I might be wrong but - The Wollensak Series A Portrait Lens is also a Petzval but without the focus adjustment knob and is slower at f5 vs. f3.8 Later they name was changed to Vesta Portrait - when...
Yes wide open - my film is ISO .0875
Garrett SHHH! The prices will go up! :)

Is your new vitax this one? 301128011407. If so very pretty. I love mine!
Hmm... Knob on front standard. Recessed lock knobs on bed extension. Metal reinforcements look original to camera. Nothing that speaks "Century or Ansco". G
The opening for the back does not look like a Century I don't see the spring catch for the backs, normally located top center... Ansco's had the three standards ( Like the 9A) but they had a catch...
My Bellows are original and are exactly as you described a coated exterior and a plain cotton interior (faded to a grey) - although I would hate to call the exterior coating a rubber, because it is...

Interesting read.
i am second owner of the 8A the 10A who knows!
So was Fabrikoid spec'd in the literature by Meridian? I just mentioned these fabrics Fabrikoid and Keratol as being period substitutes for Leather to get the conversation started. Perhaps the...
My 10A and 8A are not leather {I wish! as this would be easy to repair and "moisturize"} The material is flaking off on the folds and you can see the cotton weave of the fabric. I wish I new how...
I see lots of information regarding patching and repairing old bellows. Does anyone have any idea what these were originally made of? Definitely not leather, but an impregnated cloth?
"Keratol...
Real Ansco backs are hard to find, I have a grey one. I bid on a varnished Ansco back and lost.
Well they did offer to nickle plate the hardware and provide a red leather bellows ;) My Catalog from 1958 show the price as $193.00 Varnished and $325.00 Painted.
Randy, did you just purchase that varnished 8x10 back on ebay about a month ago?
Your grey painted model is actually the upscale model of the Ansco #5 studio camera. Believe it or not the grey paint cost more than the varnished model.
I own the varnished model. I am the...
And yes they made them with a factory sync and many were field adapted by the user. I have seen micro switches and homemade contact assemblies of wood and brass positioned to contact the piston. I...
It's very nice to have the sync'd version. I have several - and they work very well. With the pin pulled it works as "Time" Open the shutter than suck it closed with the bulb - AND the flash does...
I agree on quantities produced, and the bidder surely must have surely had a need!
I was a bidder and thought "maybe" $2500.00 would have been the magic number. I own a "sister" that was...
Is this sought after? Twelve bidders - but two makes the auction.
I think this must be a #7 or 7A?
