This resonates with me, though I like Adam's landscapes a lot, and am drawn to traditional landscape. In recent years I have been more conscious of how much the typical Scottish landscape photography...

Manhattan Optical / Gundlach serial numbers?

I am trying to get an idea of an age of Manhattan Optical no.2 Verastigmat lens. There is very little info out there for this lens other than it being a 4+4 anastigmat. I know it's no later than...
  5. Re: Red/purple staining on PyrocatHD developed negatives

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I can confirm that resoaking the sheets in sodium sulfite clears these stains in just a couple of seconds, so I think I need to agitate vigorously during the...
  6. Red/purple staining on PyrocatHD developed negatives

About a month ago my PyrocatHD (1+1+100 @ 20C) developed negatives (Fomapan 100) started showing red-purplish stains. I am using the Stearman SP-445 tank, and the stains are on the non-emulsion side...

    Re: High Lights scanning problem

Epsonscan doesn’t do anything SilverFast doesn’t, as much as I dislike SF, Epsonscan is a rather mediocre piece of user interface to the drivers, which I suspect exists primarily for in-house testing...

Re: Epson v800 8x10 transparency vertical banding

It’s a bad scanner, if it’s within warranty, chase that up with Epson. Mine has developed this problem across half of the upper scanning light. The light is made of multiple banks of LEDs arranged in...
  9. Re: Hi : )!!! - Please suggest me GPC flatbed scanner

Just to answer my own question, in case someone else stumbles on this, the wet mounting accessory for the V850 can't be used with the 4990, focusing distance of the V series is significantly greater...

    Re: High Lights scanning problem

I am no scanning expert, but with SilverFast I scan negatives using the HDR Raw output, I then deal with the curve in post, in my case CaptureOne, which offers far better control then SF.
  11. Re: Where can I get a 5x4 dichroic enlarger or darkroom in the UK

+1 for secondhanddarkroom, it’s the first place I look for darkroom stuff. Also, if you don’t see what you need on the website it’s worth giving him a call.

Re: What did you compose at Waters Edge?

To me the morning light provides a nicer distribution of light and shadow teasing out the different tones in the landscape, creating a very rich visual experience. The greater contrast in the...

  16. Re: Hi : )!!! - Please suggest me GPC flatbed scanner

I just picked up one of these as the transparency light on my V850 has packed it in, and it's proving difficult to get it fixed ... so, the reason the 4990 are going so cheap is that there are no...

    Re: Fomapan 100, 200 and 400

It's known to be quite bad for reciprocity, the official data sheet says no compensation up to 1/2s, 1 stop for 1s, 3 stops for 10s and 4 stops for 100s, but that seems a rather odd shaped curve to...

Re: Taking film in and out of the freezer

Given the humidity around here is usually around 60+%, once a film pack is open, the emulsion will absorb some water, so I only freeze unopened film for long term storage, once a pack is open, it...
  23. Re: Arista EDU and Foma 400 - Are you using them in spite of .... ??

Ah, interesting, I was thinking that recently I am seeing fewer of these than I used to, and this could explain it, as I am mainly using PyrocatHD just now with half-strength ilfostop. I'll try the...

    Re: Large Format Landscapes

I like these a lot, and I think you are right, they work together as a pair, I think it's the contrast between the detail on the right and the lack of it on the left that makes that work.
  27. Re: Arista EDU and Foma 400 - Are you using them in spite of .... ??

I'd not push Foma 400 at all, the datasheet shows it's really a ISO 200 film, and it has rather nice tonal curve when exposed around 200, but I personally don't like the tonality that much when shot...

  30. Poll: Re: Poll: How do you process large format black and white film?

  34. Re: Opinion: Would a 90mm f8 or f6.8 lens be too dark for dawn and dusk landscape?

Make that at least 200 sheets, 4x5 sheet of Foma is $1.20. (Or perhaps 250, the only CF I see on eBay is ~$400, and they will only get more expensive, as is the general trend with all of the analogue...

  40. Re: What is about the right size for a dark cloth for a 4x5" camera?

Mine is 140cm wide and 1m long, I'd not go any shorter than that for my medium height, I used have it at 140cmx140cm, but that was unnecessarily long. I used a blackout curtain fabric that is black...
