  1. Re: Does a Photograph's medium change your opinion of it?

If one separates a photograph from its medium it becomes something else.
Digital is different, because there is no 'medium.' Binary is not a 'medium' it is an abstraction.

    Re: Notched Film Holders, Examples

I have some Riteway locking film holders that have the little number wheel. I just bought some 8x10 holders for $$$ and see that 4x5 holders are still reasonably priced.

    Re: 150mm f5.6 Symmar-S Image Circle

I used a Symmar-S 210mm (IC 294) on 8x10 for a few years. There are some tricks like back tilt that relax a format's coverage criteria. Other times, there was nothing to resolve in the upper right or...

    Re: De Vere Enlarger

That machine might be a little overkill to enlarge a 6x6cm negative to 36". I have some medium format table top enlargers that can do that.
I know with my 8x10 enlarger, it is a lot easer to use it...

Re: Durst CLS 1840 color head questions

Yes, power the EST1000 with 220 or 240V. That supply will need to be rated at least 1000W. When you plug the EST1000 to the wall and turn it on, the 1000W lamp will not go on until there is 120 to...

A clip from the CLS2000 instruction book. The CLS1840 should follow the same guidelines as below for the CLS2000:

Re: Durst CLS 1840 color head questions

I'll see what manuals I have in terms of adapting the CLS1840 to your L184. It should bolt right on, but yes, there might be an issue with having the correct negative carrier.

Re: Durst CLS 1840 color head questions

Yes, plug your timer into the timer socket. It will accept 120 to 220v and activate the head. Whatever timer you plug in there is electrically and or optically isolated from the EST1000 and only...

  15. Re: Seeking Advice on Making an 8x10 Copy Camera

  16. Re: Seeking Advice on Making an 8x10 Copy Camera

Why 8x10? Most artwork is not photographed 1:1, but with a smaller format like 35mm or 120 on a copy stand.
One cheap solution to make 8x10 negatives would be to try contact printing them on film...

Re: DIY 8x10 (or larger) Enlarger Chassis

  19. Re: omega super chromega d dichroic ii timer question

If you don't want to use the Chromegatrol, and use an external timer, you need to use the un-regulated Chromega D power supply. In that case, just about any timer plugs into the back of it.

You can set up a Polaroid film back to process a single Instax at a time by pulling the Instax film through the rollers. Though in my test here the flow of developer was a little uneven.

    Re: Lens recommendation: Indoor, wide

Agree 90mm as a good choice. Many 105mm lenses are for 6x9 format, so I'd avoid those.
65mm and 75mm lenses will give more of a Les Krims look, and might be too wide.

I think you are OK. Go ahead and print your Zone VIII negatives (processed for different times) and check for just-off white separation to find the correct one.
  40. Re: What distance needed to enlarge to 30" x 40" with 135mm or 150mm lens for 4x5?

The lenses all use the same optical physics. You are barking up the wrong tree here. The light falloff problem will be related to your enlarger's light source. This can be anything from a hot spot...
