    You will need a flash meter... This will give you an f stop to set the lens to...

    You also need to make sure your shutter has X synchronization setting so the shutter is completely open when flash...

    A linear solenoid is not an efficient device... The force would need to start instantly, proceed quickly/evenly to open fully, remain open for a given time interval (dwell), then reverse...

    Most leather preservatives have the same active product...
    Lanolin, which is a collagen that the leather needs to survive... Leather is still a "living" thing and this collagen feeds the fibers...

    For the locking points, first see if possibly any washers are missing under the locking knobs and on the other side of the sliders... Tighten down the knobs while watching if the metal brackets that...

    Venician Cream leather preserver is widely used by the camera restoration community... Works great!!!

    One note for whatever you use is thin, dried leather is very delicate once a damp preservative...
