    Re: Avedon

There are artist-photographers that use their subjects (noun) as a device-prop as a means to express. More often than not the innate personality of the prop is of little to no significance to the...

    Re: Avedon

Much about cultivating an audience. Avedon busted the art tradition mould by creating images in high key, hard hitting and simply different. There are similarities between Avedon and Andy Warhol as...

    Re: Going Long on 5x7

Avoid telephoto design LF lenses if possible. They are intended for cameras with insufficient bellows draw trading off size, weight and optical performance.

Short tele for 5x7_13x18cm would be...

    Re: 210mm F5.6 Lens For 8x10

200_ism mm lens for 8x10 has come up often. Do a search on LFF to see the numerous previous discussions.

Essentially, it comes down to cost -vs- lens size -vs- what your specific print image needs...
  12. Re: Disastrous Consequences (solved: fog with Intrepid lensboard)

If Sinar lens boards fits this Intrepid camera, simply use them and move on.

Batting about saving a few $ here or there is absurd given the overall cost and resources required to produce images...
  13. Re: Disastrous Consequences (solved: fog with Intrepid lensboard)

Cost to water jet cut FR4 or aluminum is about the same. Since the FR4 is coated, finishing cost would be very similar. Very possible raw material cost would be more for the FR4 as non-copper plated...
  14. Re: Disastrous Consequences (solved: fog with Intrepid lensboard)

Make a correct lens board out of wood or aluminum. Cost reduction on an absolutely crucial part (lens board) is absurd.

One sheet of 4x5 color transparency film about $5-7 USD, add processing per...
  15. Re: Disastrous Consequences (solved: fog with Intrepid lensboard)

Not impressed. Very possible reason for using FR4 which is a printed circuit board material very common in the electronics industry is cost. FR4 is low cost and easy to have made in the shape needed...

8x10_ish prints go on 11x14 mat boards.

10x14_ish prints go on 16x20 mat boards.

IMO, the riser column is not needed, adds weight and...
  26. Re: Fujinon C 450mm F/12 .5 (or another) to replace Fujinon T 400mm F/8 for Lightweig

Weight can be lowered by loosing the geared tripod head and a tripod with a riser column. If done properly, better stability can be had with lower weight and not much difference in set up ability.

  29. Re: Fujinon C 450mm F/12 .5 (or another) to replace Fujinon T 400mm F/8 for Lightweig

Fujinon 450C f12.5 is coveted for it's small physical size (copal or similar# 1 shutter) and large image circle. IMO, kinda a mixed bag as it's small physical size makes it desirable for folks who...
