    Re: Used gear and availability

I think this is true also. Going to the Post Office is PITA right now, (especially in a hard-hit area like where I live).
I had been photographing and preparing a bunch of items I was going to...
  2. Re: Eliot Porter's darkroom with Jim Bones

Drew - thank you for the detailed status of the process.
Alan - I didn’t know very much about Jim Bones other than him being Eliot Porter’s printer.
JP - thank you for sharing the video.
  3. Re: Eliot Porter's darkroom with Jim Bones

Can the chemistry still be reliably sourced for Dye Transfer? I know Kodak stopped production years ago. It’s a difficult process to begin with and I wonder how challenging it is for any practitioner...
  4. Re: Eliot Porter's darkroom with Jim Bones

Long ago I saw some of Eliot Porter’s prints at an exhibition; I had never seen such beautiful color prints before, or since.
The process is laborious to be sure, but probably unequalled even now.

    Re: Adox paper unavailable?

I have a sizable stash if the Adox but once you start printing a project, it goes very fast. I hope it comes back soon; it’s become my favorite WT paper.

    Re: Fred Picker

I wanted to take his workshop but I was in college and funds were very low. A co-worker at a custom lab I worked at (FinePrint) suggested I buy the Zone VI workshop book in order to learn the Zone...
  9. Re: Defend the Darkroom: interview with Sandy King

Same here - it also provided a nice break from my “working from home” routine.
I have been wanting to take Sandy’s workshop for some time; it has to be in Montana though - I have been wanting to go...

Re: The beginnings of the COVID darkroom.

Big darkrooms are tiring - really! A small tidy darkroom that fits your needs is best. I have been in darkrooms where the dry side was probably 15ft away from the sink - I got the sense that I...

Re: Do I need a Durst Femomask 450?

You have all that you need and the negative will be flat across. Just remember to throughly clean all four glass surfaces - check for tiny dust with a loupe.

    Well organized layout.
  13. Re: Lee Filters - anyone using these or Cokin et al squares?

I have both round and the square (Cokin - not glass). My brain insists that glass is better even though I can’t tell the difference in prints. And so, I go back and forth between systems - I use the...

    Re: Change of fixer

I was thinking that if you had been using water as a stop bath, you would need to increase the time + agitation. From what you are saying, the choice of stop bath doesn’t seem to be at fault. It may...

    Re: My New Darkrrom

Once upon a time I work in a darkroom painted black - it was not pleasant and judging print quality was problematic. When I became its caretaker, I painted it flat white and flat grey right above...

    Re: Change of fixer

    Exasperating is right.

Consider how you are stopping development (water, acidic stop bath, etc.) as this step will influence the result of the fixing action.

    Re: Hass Intellifaucets are tough!

I was thinking of getting a back-up Intellifaucet (a D250) for the University darkroom and decided not to; it's been working flawlessly for well over 20 years. Last year I bought a K250 for my own...
  18. Re: 5x7 inch Developing Reel for Jobo 2500 Series Tank

    Good to know. Thank you.
I was thinking of getting for use in the JOBO ATL-1500, which used 2500 Series Tanks.
  19. 5x7 inch Developing Reel for Jobo 2500 Series Tank

I have seen (on the auction site) a couple of 5x7 inch film developing reels for the Jobo 2500 Series Tanks; they look like knock-offs of the 8x10 Reel made by CatLabs.
    Anyone have any experience...
  20. Re: Help with Durst Ce 1000 Taunobox 450 mixing box

Check with Glennview in Chicago. He may not have the parts on hand but might be able to source them. He provided (had it made) the drive gear for my Durst Pro.

Re: A question on FS rule enforcement

    Good grief!

I used to enjoy the conversations about the items on sale because some of the items were unknown to me - almost always (almost!) learned something new. No big deal, I guess.

Re: Best enlarger you have used

My order of preference for reliability, ease of use, quality-build (from personal use):

    1. Durst
    2. LPL
    3. Beseler

I have never worked with a DeVere, which has a great reputation. I have...
