Both hands? Not quite. You need one hand to prevent the reel from rotating in the spindle, and the other hand to load the sheets. I can see the possibilities of easily fabricating a similar jig out...

I am a MOD54 user and after seeing the photo, I seem to be missing something. How does that make it any easier? You still have to fiddle to place the sheets between the fingers.
Mod54 for me works very well. Never had any issues that affected a printed neg.
Leigh,
I use Rodinal with medium format, however, the info I have come across recommends 10 sec agitation every minute, which is what I do. Can you tell me your thoughts on using Rodinal with...
The wall test is a good suggestion. Will run that on my next dev batch.
Emulsion in is a no brainer, though I think the reason why its recommended is to keep the fingers of the processor which are prone to scratching the film, away from the emulsion side. I should also...
I discovered that I could not upload the other two files because they were too large, thus I reduced them. Here are two photos with middle grays.
The system is not letting me upload the other two files, any ideas why? They are the same format and about the same size as the previous.
I will post three photos, all are 4x5 and selected because if there was any uneven development it would be easy to see in the black areas. These three negatives also had minor scratches in the areas...
From what I can tell, the older version was prone to breaking because the plastic used, which appeared to be a type of styrene, was very brittle. The newer version, which is the one I have, appears...
I have always used the spindle for developing 35mm, 120, and now 4x5 using the MOD54 processor and never have experienced uneven development with any film format. When I first started using the...
I use the MOD54 and my only issue has been small scratches on the side of the film opposite the emulsion in the area of the fingers of the processor. I have not found the scratches to show up in...
I am sure that is as good a lens as the 300 F9 Nikkor M I have. However, the 450 uses a heavier Copal 3 shutter. My camera is a Canham DLC 4x5 and I do not believe the #3 shutter will fit in its...
I find it hard to believe that back when film photography enjoyed a healthy market neither Rodenstock nor Schneider saw the demand from field photographers to manufacture lenses suitable for...
Lens did not sell on ebay at would have been a total price of close to 1300. Obviously, a price that the market will not bear. Its back at the same price. I suppose the seller is waiting for a...
Clear enough, however should I use a development time recommended for iso100 or iso50? Keep in mind that I only have data for developing it at iso50 and not 100.
The Massive Dev chart has Pan F in Rodinal 1+50, rated at iso80 which is fairly close to the 100 I originally used, for 13.5 min (35mm film, but in the past I have not paid attention to the film type...
This was a roll of medium format film. Some of the scenes were sunny, some were in shadow, and some in hazy sun.
My developer options are Pyrocat-HD Glycol or Rodinal.
Mike, it was a roll of medium format PanF that I shot at iso100 thinking it was Acros that I almost always use. Perhaps N-1 might be better to tone down the contrast.
Today I mistakenly shot some film one stop underexposed. Can I develop it N+1 (20% more development time) in the hope of recovering what I shot, even if it is slightly grainier? Or is there another...
Is Obsidian Aqua commercially available as a premixed developer or is it strictly a brew-your-own basis? Thanks.
Could not have said it better myself.
Your post brings hope to my quest. Will be on the lookout. Thanks.
One of the important tenets of Leitz ownership is that you never sell what you buy, because if you do, you are guaranteed to regret it at a later date. I am sure there are gems of LF about which the...
Because if it were damaged in some manner during use, I could not afford to replace it.
Seems that the Fujinons have developed that dreaded photographic disease: "too valuable to use syndrome". Just like my Summicron 35/2 that I purchased new 30 years ago for 370 (tax included) and is...
If I had one I would not be selling it, just like I would not consider selling my Fuji A 240/9 for any amount of money (well, "any amount of money" that anyone would be willing to pay).
That is the last lens I need to round out my kit. Thankfully I was able to find a Fujinon A 240/9 Black Copal several months ago.
I asked because I am searching for this lens. I saw the posting on Ebay. Quite pricey but it appears to be in almost new condition. Given that its a rare lens half of that price does not strike me...
Does anyone have an idea what a fair price (don't say whatever the market will bear as this does not contribute anything to the discussion) for this lens in fair, good, and excellent grades?
Absolutely right about the metrics; this is why they got out of manufacturing large format lenses and there is less technology in LF lenses than in lenses used in digital "photography". However I am...
I have been photographing since the early 70s though on a non-professional basis up until this day, and this past year began using large format, thus my interest in joining the forum. I experimented...
Please correct me if I am wrong. I presume that the majority of commercial photographers using large format are using color more than B&W. Thus the majority of users for B&W are "fine-arts" and...
$6 per roll, what a bargain!!!!!!! I also use 35mm, but I may have to start counting frames.
Most of the prices are substantially up for both Ilford and Fuji, certainly large format. I can understand the price rising slightly, but Acros 4x5 25 shts from 46 to 56 and FP4 from 29 to 33? ...
Just looking now at film pricing at B&H and Adorama and it appears that prices have dramatically increased for B&W film. Like an Acros100 single roll is just over $7, 4x5 Acros went from 46 to 56. ...
Try Pyro with any of the Ilford films; Acros is double the price of Ilford. Pyro and large format photo are a match made in heaven. Just ask any master of 20th century large format photo. ...
Some comments:
1- I use a small graduate marked in 1ml increments that works well.
2- Have been using FP4+ without presoaking and halation layer comes off during processing without any problems....
Chris, took the plunge and purchased a box of Delta 100 and will experiment with iso 80 and 100, once the few sheets I have left of FP4+ run out.
