  1. Re: Film on a Plane: Check It or Carry-On?

A few years ago I put film in one of those lead shields; the x-ray scanning technician couldn't see what was inside it: I had to remove it from my bag; the film was hand inspected.

    There is a...

Re: Kirk Tuck commenting on 4x5 video blog

His 'perspective' seems to be contempt (as r.e. has pointed out quite well) for anyone who doesn't do things his way.

There are a lot of videos on LF that make me cringe a bit, but so what? There...
  3. Re: Voigtlander Bergheil 9x12 Shift Control Not Moving

Same on mine; just plain stuck; probably dry lubrication - if I turn the knob really hard, the shift works. I brought it to the Camera Dr. in NYC. I couldn't see my way to take the mechanism apart.
  4. Re: Carbon Transfer Workshop, Oct. 20 - 23, 2021, Yosemite Valley

Too bad about the last-minute cancellation. I wanted to attend the workshop but car rentals have been a problem to secure. I hope to attend it in April.

    I attended the Platinum/Palladium workshop...
  5. Re: Light weight 4X5 gear backpack recommendations

I'll chime in as my requirements are very similar to the OP's needs.
For hiking I have settled on the lightweight approach with:

TOHO FC-45X modified as recommended by Kerry Thalmann (wonderful...

    Re: Color of Ansco/PF 130

Good tip regarding the dilution. Some papers (I forget which one at the moment) developed very fast at 1:1; something like one minute - way too fast to control.

  12. Re: Leaving Kodak for Ilford

I suspect that the Glycin was too old (discolored); I have several kits (3+ years old) of it but I need to replace the discolored Glycin with freshly bought Glycin. A minor annoyance, but an...

Re: JOBO ATL 3 or a CPP

The advantage of a Jobo ATL is that you don't have to stand by it to operate each step. You fill the chemistry bottles, attach the Tank, press Start and walk away. The disadvantage is that if it...

    Re: Color of Ansco/PF 130

Ansco 130 will 'work' (it will develop paper) with old, off-color Glycin but it will stain the paper; it is immediately apparent in the white borders of the print.

Over the past few years I've...
  17. Re: Vintage Camera Repairs - anyone left?

    Update:
Took it to the Camera Doctor in NYC today. Diagnosis: the worm gear is gummed up. He will access it from underneath the front standard, clean it and re-lube it.

    While I was there I...

  21. Vintage Camera Repairs - anyone left?

Looking for someone to repair a vintage Voigtlander 9x12 with a frozen shift mechanism (separate thread).
I can't figure out how to take it apart and too afraid to damage it further.

    Monorail vs. Folding Camera Weight

As far as I can tell, Monorail Cameras are heavier than the Folding (TOHO is the only exception that I know of).

What is the reasoning behind this? Is it for the simple reason that Monorail...
  31. Re: Electrical diagram of the Durst UT 100 dryer

  37. Sinar Filter Holder 100 - Anyone using it?

This is purely out of curiosity; I had never heard of it until a few days ago as I was leafing through a Sinar Catalog. It functions in a similar way to other modular filter holders systems (Cokin...
