I've spent hours in last few days trying to attach photos to posts or short replies. If you want to put up a quote or an emoticon, no problem.

    Re: Bellow compensation.

Lynn's right. Divide the FL by the Bellows Draw first (always gives you a number less than one) and square that, getting an even smaller number. That's fraction or percentage of light the film is...

Re: Poll: Do you use distilled water?

My water is pretty soft (nyc tap water) so I use it for everything except final rinse of negatives, where I go for distilled to minimize spots. Deionized water would be the same thing. Water...

    Re: Beseler 45M

Saw a 45m discarded on the street last year from a school that was closing its darkroom. (Black one, not blue one). Took head and condensors, couldn't help myself.
This is why I have no closet...

    Re: This lens for 4 x 5?

The only drawback of using a lens that far exceeds the camera's format is that there will be an excess amount of light entering the bellows and bouncing around...possibly causing flare.

  7. Re: Any tips for cutting 8/10 LF sheets to 5/7

    Hey pal,

if you want 5.x7 Ektachrome 64T, (EPY 6118, and Eastman Cat 120 8453) I have 26 sheets free for the postage, I guess about $15. Dated 9/2001 and last shoot was 2/04, which was perfect. ...
  8. Re: what do i do with expired color negative film?

My 5x7 Ektachrome EPY was fine five years out of date... it went into a freezer a year before it expired and I saw no difference. This film is finicky, but it's also quite contrasty, so a little fog...

Re: Jobo 2840 drum for film

I run 5x7 and 13x18cm in the five cavities of a 3005 Expert Jobo, and had the same problem until I got a hemostat -- that surgical tool with tweezer jaws on a sissors handle -- and grabbing the film...
  10. Re: » DAGOR 355mm MC GOLD DOT Schneider 14" W/ Compur #3

I have a Schneider gold dot 14, for my Korona 7x17, and I like that the best. But it's best in the corners after f/11 or f/16, and I also use the Fujinon 360 f/6.3 which is sharper in corners a...

Re: what focal lenght for macro?

Quickly, if you want the same dimensions on your neg as the subject, the real meaning of "macro", your lens will be out twice it's stated (infinity) focal length, and you will have to open two stops...

    5x7 darkroom rental nyc?

Wondering if anyone knows of a black & white rental darkroom where I could print from my 5x7 negatives? Printspace had a 8x10 enlarger but masking the neg holder was a pain.

    Maybe a private...

    Re: Exposing Tri-X

I like EI 250 for average subjects, and err on the high side (more exposure, lower EI) when estimating the correction for bellows extension.

    photographing a campfire

Try spot metering the actual flame and open three stops. One and a half or two won't give you
a dense enough neg. For tranparency film, open two or two and a half, no more.

  15. Does anyone make a daylight tank for a 5x7 this will hold up to 10 or 12 negatives?

I've gone 5x7 for a year or two, never found such a tank, look tho' I might. Tried dip and dunk with stainless steel racks in open tanks. I had trouble managing more than a few, scratching negs,...

    Canham MQC 5x7, Honestly

I've had my MQC for a year and found the tilts were easy to use; a little experience was necessary to learn how much to load the locks when tightening them.
