Re: Show off your Large Format camera!

Green like the Toyo VX? That would be cool! Or, more like a British racing green? Love this on something like an old Jag. or MGA, even an older 911 - but on a camera I'm not so sure...hmmm...
  2. Re: 305 G-Claron As W.A. 11x14 Enlarger Lens?

I'm working myself into another 11x14 camera build...and for this one I think I want to design it for exclusive use with the 305 - to help keep things simple and (relatively) compact and light(ish)...
  3. Re: 305 G-Claron As W.A. 11x14 Enlarger Lens?

Yes...thinking also that this will also involve a bit of diffusion material and some long...long....long exposures!
  4. Re: What’s your most “unpopular” opinion about LF?

I can remember the first time I had my first (giant, DIY sliding-box) 11x14 camera out on location at Pemaquid Point, Maine. Boy, what a bear even then...getting this thing, along with my Quick-Set...
  5. Re: 305 G-Claron As W.A. 11x14 Enlarger Lens?

Part of the reason that the 150 G-Claron works so well for 5x7 negatives is that the Heiland LED VC light source is sufficiently oversized to help mitigate ray-angle issues.

    But...no way, no how...
  6. 305 G-Claron As W.A. 11x14 Enlarger Lens?

My 305 G-Claron works wonderfully with 11x14, and I find that if I need axial moments in the field working near or at infinity, I can usually mitigate issues with falloff and/or edge performance by...
  7. Re: Objective without signature, but lens has writings at the edge

How cool is that...the signature and date on the edge of the element? And here I was, thinking that the phrase "an objective without signature" was possibly referring to a completely boring/sterile...
  8. Re: Out With My 14x17 DIY Camera & XRAY Film

My three 11x14 film cassettes are still in mint/like new condition, but my (DIY plywood) 11x14 camera has been so trashed and cannibellized:confused: (jeesh...cannot spell that word!) over the years,...
  9. Re: What’s your most “unpopular” opinion about LF?

"Pass them along before we die..." This resonates. Thinking about how much money I'd lost last year when I let my Hasselblad gear go to a dealer (a very reputable one...and no disrespect), it...
  10. Re: Out With My 14x17 DIY Camera & XRAY Film

I was very moved by your video...and feel newly inspired!

Breathtaking image...but a detail I think worth mentioning in good company, is the importance (and challenge) of submersing/covering the...
  11. Re: What’s your most “unpopular” opinion about LF?

Here's an admission...that, depending on the nature of light and subject matter, there are times when the image on my (Maxwell) GG is so bright and "snappy" that I absolutely do not need a focussing...
  12. Re: What’s your most “unpopular” opinion about LF?

That theoretical diffraction limitation does not really become evident (even in very large prints) until apertures of at least one stop smaller (and sometimes two stops) than those commonly...

    Re: Wooden film holder arcing

Some of my plastic holders do this very slightly...but the spring pressure from the film back is more than enough to straighten this curvature and all is well (and light-tight). But your mileage may...

Re: What equipment is hard for you to find?

Low profile quick release with large (4x5 inch-ish footprint) plate.

Plate should be slotted to allow for one or two 3/8" (or 1/4" as option) screws to be adjustable to particular camera specs....

Re: Seeking advice on 120mm lenses

If you could possibly shave off 10mm of FL - you might look for a 110mm 5.6 XL. Significantly smaller/lighter/brighter than the 120mm SA, which is why I made this move about a year ago. But...

    Re: ULF DIY Camera Cart

That looks just right! Are those garden cart wheels?

I'll bet you can balance this nicely so little or no amount of lift is necessary as you move it along.

Do you push it...or pull it like...
  18. Re: Getting Back To PMK - Want To Try Pre-Mixed But Is It Good?

    Thanks for the great replies!

I started with PMK back in 1992 (after having learned ABC pyro in 1982 from Cole Weston, but wanting more consistency) - having purchased a very outdated 32oz....
  19. Getting Back To PMK - Want To Try Pre-Mixed But Is It Good?

I've been souping my films mostly in Pyrocat these days...with the occasional use of HC-110. But now I have a hankering to get back into PMK - and while I'd previously mixed all of my PMK from...

Re: How to learn a type of film?

Niels is spot on...the best reason for "learning a film" comes early - during the foundation-building process, not typically the time to "jump around" from film to film...especially if such jumping...

    Re: Lens Repair

As for rebuilding shutters, it seems that the most common shutter-related issue among us LF folks is a gunked-up slow speed mechanism (the little cage which contains the slow speed gears).

    Turns...
  23. Re: Making glass plate negative holder ideas.

...but why even use glass as the negative itself is glass?

If I were about to undertake the printing from a large number of glass plates, and assuming consistency of plate size...then I would...

Re: Looking for Info for a Dark box/bag

Brilliant! Great mod for an otherwise "plain jayne" changing bag! Now I've got to do something really nice for my wife...because I just may have a bit of a sewing project lined up for her!
  33. Re: AM Goerz Trigor production made by Kern?

Probably my favorite LF lens of all time...a Kern built 14" Blue Dot Trigor - which I'd first tested by taping strips of the old Agfapan 25 to various spots in an 11/14 holder...middle and edges, and...

    Re: Schneider-itis: The Perennial Problem

I've often wondered about this...that the number of those little white specks might reach a "critical mass," beyond which the contrast performance may begin to suffer a bit.

Re: How Many LF Formats Do You Use/Own?

Started with 4x5, then added 11x14 - and did this combo for a few years before I added 8x10 - and then 5x7, which is still my go-to format, almost to the exclusion of the other three, although I know...
