  1. Re: Fuji HR-U X-ray Film, 510 Pyro & Albumen Printing

    Vaughn - ASA 800? I hope a mistype.

I’ve used double sided X-ray film for albumen contact prints. I use 100-year old Protar and Rapid Rectilinear lenses and attempt to create a look in my prints...

Re: Quick releases clamps and plates

I’ve seen lighter cameras than the RB67 fall off of the Bogen system. The clamp just doesn’t hold the camera plate. I use Really Right Stuff system clamps with everything from my Nikon F, my Nikon...

    Re: Massive Dev app

You develop negatives to best match how you print. If you’re going to use a condenser enlarger, your negative development time will probably be different than if you use a cold light. That’s what...

    Re: Who fixes Speed Graphics?

Frank at cameradoctornyc.com. It’s in New York so the state of lockdown may have an effect. I’d suggest emailing or calling first.

    Re: post your trees!

There used to be a guy on the forums who sometimes used the name Tim Atherton. He once described it as taking a picture of a tree that’s behind another tree, that’s behind a bush.

The B&L literature says the same - single element behind the iris. Interestingly, on the old Rodenstock Sironar double convertibles, the rear element was removed and the front remained in place when...

    Lens order on triple convertible

I have three triple convertible lenses - two B&L Protars and a Rapid Rectilinear probably made by B&L. All of them came to me with the lower length lens on the front and the longer on the rear when...
  13. Re: Hi everyone. Nice to meet you all. I have a few questions.

First, read all of the linked articles on the home page of this site. Then go to http://www.graflex.org and read about your camera. When you know your negative size, you can explore enlarger...

I’m currently shooting a box of Kodak Plus X from about 1990 that was kept at room temperature in Florida. I shoot it at 100 rather than the rated 125 and develop in my regular Pyrocat HD. The film...

    Re: Develop -N2

I shoot a lot in lighting situation similar to the OPís. Iíve found reducing agitation controls contrast better than reducing development. I second what Michael says about catechol.

    Re: Scanning 8x10 Negatives

I’ve scanned 8x10 for many years, first with an Epson 4990, then with a V750. The higher resolution lens on the 750 will not cover 8x10, but it scans well with the lower resolution lens for my...

  26. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Peter, I use the Carestream green and it seems pretty slow. I use BTZS, so I’m not sure how to translate it to an iso.
  27. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

I use hangers in the traditional way and Pyrocat. I very rarely get scratches. That makes me think the scratching comes when the film is wet, not when it is dry.

    Re: UV bulb in enlarger?

The photographer’s exposure to the light is an important consideration. I set a timer for all of my UV work and leave the darkroom during the exposure.

I tried it once with a CFL bulb in my Beseler 45MX enlarger. I only exposed for an hour and got a bit of an image on albumen. It does seem it would work with time.

    Re: Ansco 130 - 1:1 or 1:2?

I also found I could make small contrast changes with 130 by varying the amount of time agitating.
  33. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Now I’m using tanks and nitrogen burst, but previously tanks and raising and lowering the hangers.
  34. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

I’ve tamed contrast by reducing agitation.

  39. Re: Adobe is going to only sell subscription based Photoshop

I use C1 with both a Nikon D300s and a D750. Peter is correct that C1 and Photoshop are not interchangeable. It depends on what you need.
I believe Corel offers a Linux version of PaintShop pro.
  40. Re: Adobe is going to only sell subscription based Photoshop

I switched to Capture One and haven’t looked back. They have both a purchase and subscription model.
