Re: Is this where New55 went wrong?

I thought this might be the case. I guess my point is a film like New55 is difficult to use and thus is uninteresting to the layman (average enthusiast who might only use polaroid 600 type cameras)....

Is this where New55 went wrong?

I don't know New55's formal situation but I do get the impression they aren't racking in the cash. Unfortunately they didn't fund their latest Kickstarter and have had teething issues all the way...

    Thanks!
  4. Where to buy glassine sheets/envelopes in the UK.

I'm trying to store my prints for short terms (not archival) and found the glassine bags good but I can't find anything larger than 8x10 in the UK. Does anyone know of a source? Europe even?

    Re: IMAGO Positive Paper

I believe this IMAGO paper was commissioned. So is it technically possible to create a direct positive paper with a speed around 100 ISO? If so I wonder why not, even at say very high ISOs as you...

    Re: IMAGO Positive Paper

I find the paper extremely contrasty. My source, Mr cad in London, recommends PQ developers heavily diluted to lower the contrast but I have found this is still not satisfactory. I do like the...

    Re: Mod 54 alternatives.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm tempted to attempt the taco method but I'm worried about potential damage to the film and not enough new developer reaching it. Could this be a problem?
  9. Re: Slice of Radioactive Thorium Mineral Rock as Light Source for Contact Print

It won't work in the slightest and suggestion that film is better because it records information at a molecular level is a ridiculous one because a 'molecule' can be huge!

Oh sorry I forgot to mention I can only use something with the lights on and that I can load in a dark bag.

    Mod 54 alternatives.

I wonder if anyone could suggest alternatives to the Mod 54 insert for the Patterson tank for processing 4x5 negatives? I can't afford to buy that and the large tank needed for it. It also needs to...

This is very nice. Well done! Could I possibly have a 1600 x 900 res for my desktop background?

    Paper on paper contact printing.

I'm a student and don't have a lot of spare income to pay for 10x8 films. After playing with some MG paper in my 5x4 camera and then reading about paper on paper contact printing on Ilfords website I...

Re: DIY Scanning camera (not mine)

I've been thinking of making a film scanner with a line array type sensor. Also interested in an 8x10 version! I will post here if I do anything.

Re: I'm interested in a printer, I think...

I think it's easily done because component cost is low but demand is also low hence the high prices of scanners.

Re: I'm interested in a printer, I think...

Thanks for all the replies. I have been looking at the R3000 mostly but now also the Pixma Pro 100 as I am on a budget. The thing is I'm planning on buying a scanner too and I have only just realised...

    I'm interested in a printer, I think...

So due to space I'm finding converting my bathroom into a darkroom a real chore. I'm beginning to think it's going to be a lot easier to buy a good printer and scanner and use those. I'm thinking of...

What do you do with your slide film?

Now Ilfochrome has long gone, I believe an equivalent doesn't exist, I wonder why I would shoot slide film. I do love Velvia but processing is a hassle especially if I'm just going to scan it for the...

    Re: Large format shutter options.

It is a F Theta lens. By reading that it seems it will have built in barrel distortion?

I'll see if I can contact Bob Saloman if he has experience.

I did mean the shutter however I would like to know more about the lens.

    Re: Large format shutter options.

I only say amazing for it's shear size - I'm used to 4x5 150mm lenses etc, this one dwarfs them.

Thanks I'll keep looking on that however I can't seem to find much info on them.

    Re: Large format shutter options.

I haven't tested it however I have no way of doing so really. I have projected my window onto my wall with it in my room to inspect the coverage and it will easily do 8x10 if not larger. Thanks for...

    Large format shutter options.

So I have been interested in 8x10 for a while but I was first getting my 4x5 camera built until a friend came across a lens used for laser cutting/etching. It's made by Rodenstock and has a focal...
