    Re: DSLR Film Scanning

I am curious about other people’s experience with negative holders. I bought two different one thinking I could get away without paying for one from negative supply. The one held together with...
  2. Re: Dry Plates (handmade) - Tips & Tricks, Experiences & Examples . . .

Wow! That’s very nice. And encouraging. Thanks. You had a much more successful first attempt then I did.
  3. Re: Dry Plates (handmade) - Tips & Tricks, Experiences & Examples . . .

    Thanks.
  4. Re: Dry Plates (handmade) - Tips & Tricks, Experiences & Examples . . .

Is it advisable/necessary to use Eco-Wash or hypo clear after fixing dry plates? (Both home made w/Foma Emulsion & J. Lane Plates)
When washing these plates, should that be done in a still tray of...

Re: F-stop Mountain Series Lotus Backpack Review

FWIW - the Lowepro Pro Tactic Utility Bag holds 5 (6 very tightly) 4x5 film holders each in a zip lock, rubber banded, and inside of a gallon zip lock perfectly. Well designed and should last. (Now...
  7. Re: Making J Lane Positive Plates? (Famous Format Monobath?)

Interesting. So it was more of a “Trade secret” type of thing? As an aside, I was at Freestyle today. They have a whole display case on the wall dedicated to J. Lane Plates, holders, and accessories...
  8. Re: Making J Lane Positive Plates? (Famous Format Monobath?)

A still existing problem, common to many photographers since the beginning of image making is intentional misdirection

Anecdotally, I have been researching photographers and their studios logos...
  9. Re: Dry Plates (handmade) - Tips & Tricks, Experiences & Examples . . .

Thanks Paul. He’s who inspired me to try this in the first place. His video showed up in my “Recommened” feed on YT. The kid is very knowledgeable and easy to follow.
    Update: I tried coating again...
  10. Re: Light tripod and head for lightweight 4x5 and short lenses

I’ve been very happy with the Acratech head. Small, compact, strong, and will hold 25 pounds. I wasn’t happy paying for it, though. I use a dslr and a Speec Fraphic with an Aero Ektar that weighs in...

No. I didn’t know about this site. Thanks.
  12. Re: Dry Plates (handmade) - Tips & Tricks, Experiences & Examples . . .

    A little help, please?
  13. Re: Dry Plates (handmade) - Tips & Tricks, Experiences & Examples . . .

Well....that was an unmitigated disaster. The emulsion melted down well enough in 35mm film cans, but it was like doing wax-resist painting. When I went to pour the emulsion on the plates, it was...

Re: Camera / tripod brace for vibration

I fought this problem for a long time. Hook a carabiner to the center column and hang your overfilled, overweight camera bag to it. Problem solved, as I carry an extra kitchen sink in my camera bag.
  15. Re: Dry Plates (handmade) - Tips & Tricks, Experiences & Examples . . .

Ok. Making great strides thanks to this forum. I have 4x5 glass plates subbed w/a Rollei Gelatin & chrome alum mixture. That part went pretty well for my first try. One plate has some streaks on it,...
  16. Re: Making J Lane Positive Plates? (Famous Format Monobath?)

This was interesting and along the same lines of this discussion, I think.

Re: the thread for Kodak XTOL quality control issues

I really hope that Kodak gets it together - and soon. They have been reliable for so long and I hate to see this happening. By the way, where are the replacements?
  22. Re: Dry Plates (handmade) - Tips & Tricks, Experiences & Examples . . .

Very nice! What gauge of silver wire do I want to use when modifying 4x5 film holders to hold plates? I realize that they will leave white marks on the corners of the plates from their shadows. Not...

Great. I would have never found them on my own. Thank you Neal.
  24. Re: Dry Plates (handmade) - Tips & Tricks, Experiences & Examples . . .

I missed the info in your post. This was the wrong kind of glass I was quoted. That price didn’t include shipping. BUT that was for 25 4x5 plates!

“ Usually the Borofloat glass is used here.

    Speed Graphic Bellows

It’s looking like new bellows for The Speed Graphic are in my future. I saw some on EBay, I contacted the chap in The UK, and am wondering if there are any other options. Are there any...
  26. Re: Dry Plates (handmade) - Tips & Tricks, Experiences & Examples . . .

I contacted Howard glass. They quoted me 25 borosilicate glass plates for their minimum order of $350. That seemed insane. Did the guy steer me wrong and not understand or have things changed with...

I am going to. Thanks. It just struck me as odd that the same emulsion can do both. I guess the halides don’t care where the photons are coming from.

Re: Wet / dry plate photography

Thanks, I got that part. But I am asking about the emulsions and the developers. I am quite familiar with what an enlarger does. Here’s my question - if I put Foma Emulsion (for example) on a glass...

Re: Tiny Black Specs on Arista EDU Ultra 100

Apparently this problem lives on. A box of 4x5 from Freestyle & a box from B&H both show these. There’s a reason that this costs 1/2 of what every other 4x5 film costs. First it was bad Xtol and now...
  37. Re: What can cause TINY TINY white spots on a neg?

Lots of good advice here. Is there a difference between coffee filters and a filter funnel w/filter paper? How many microns of filtration is a good idea? I just mixed a new batch of Legacy Pro Fixer...

Re: Maintaining 68° with tankless water heater

The gizmo from Cinestill works quite well. Others report that a sous vide (sp?) heater used for cooking works well for maintaining temperature control.

  40. Re: Metering for Aero Ektar/Speed Graphic & ND Filter Help

Great photo! And yes, that is exactly the kind of thing that I am after. Thank you! I have experimented a bit with Rollei RPX 25, as well. It’s such a thin base that it’s on that it’s rather tricky...
