I've been using double, and single-sided x-ray for about 15 years, on and off. Nice stuff for the right subject. D-23 1+3.

  8. Re: Wide Lenses for 4x5 & 8x10: 90mm to 165mm

The widest lens I have for 4x5 is 90mm. For 8x10, I use Nikkor SW 120, W210, W240. I tend to use more wide lenses with 8x10, than I do with 4x5.

    Re: Digital IR

I shoot a lot of Rollei IR in 4x5 and 120. Lovely stuff.
  10. Re: More detail from internegative or digital negative ?

I totally agree. I made internegs, then switched to digital negs. Faster. Easier. Cheaper. AND... you can build all your burns and dodges IN the negative. Less waste.

    Re: Anyone else printing smaller?

Usually print around 8x10. Good size to look at while holding in your hands. If I want something for the wall, I'll print a bit larger.

    Re: Digital IR

Really happy to see that my Nikkor 24-70 2.8G lens works really well with my 720 filter (Zomei). I tested it at 24mm and at 70mm. No hot spot.

    Re: Digital IR

Testing D850 (not IR converted) with Komei IR filters 680, and 720. The 720 (and 680, for that matter) considerably darker than my other 720 filter, making it challenging to focus. But if I cupped my...

    Re: Digital IR

I really can't see there being much if any focus shift with just the R72 filter. I've used this filter for decades on HIE, Efke IR, Rollie IR, and have never noticed any shift. I do however, see it...

    Re: Digital IR

I ordered a cheap IR filter set consisting of four filters, from China, that vary in strength. 680, 720, 760, 850, 950nm. My current R72 is quite worn out, as I've been using it forever. Consists of...

    Re: Digital IR

Thank you, Peter. I tested with a 20mm lens, and it seemed to work okay with the R72. I'll have to do more testing, though to make certain. I've got lots of 18-55mm lenses for the photo program I...

    Re: Digital IR

Peter, I tried the wide prime on a D850, with the R72, and I couldn't really see an issue. I did though, with the 87C filter. Brutally long exposures that took ages for the camera to "process" the...

    Re: Rollei Infrared 400

This became my main IR film. I quite like it. I still have about 50 sheets of Efke IR in 8x10, though. That's lovely stuff, and much closer to old HIE. When I'm out with Rollie, I almost always use...
  35. Re: Citric acid equivalent for acetic acid bath.

I use vinegar at the school I teach photography, as it's plentiful and cheap. Diluted at "about" 1+1. At home I sometimes use vinegar, but more often use citric acid. One tablespoon per litre.

    Re: Shooting expired B&W film

My 1967 4x5 HIE has base fog equivalent to about one stop. Still produces excellent images. My HP5 that I've kept frozen since 2005, has about a third more base+fog. FP4 looks like new though.

Re: Dodging & Burning 8x10 Contact Prints

I use frosted mylar sheets and a soft pencil to dodge/burn areas. The mylar is laid on top of the negative, then covered with heavy glass. I also do this for kallitypes.
