Re: They say to start with 4x5, but...

The reason my 4x5's are gathering dust in favor of my larger cameas is arthritis. Those tiny little 4x5's just don't work for my 92 year old hands.
  3. Re: anyone print 4x5 negatives with a black border?

No need to alter the enlarger. Try to find a Kostiner enlarging easel.

Re: A large-format laugh from Matt Marrash

Hopefully a few newcomers will see this and realize the limitations of a Graphic style camera when it comes to movements.
  5. Re: Followup On Processing Very Old (1961) Film

They look very good, with the PCat the better of the two in several ways. The reduced grain is a normal result of using PCAt.
  6. Re: What is the Most Difficult Large Format Photography

    Good for you Greg.
I think one of the most difficult things for me is sorting out the "best" image from everything around me when I am out with the camera.

Re: Kodak D-76 8x10 in Expert drum

The developer is going to exhaust at a faster rate because of the 4x larger surface area. Once exhausted, no further development will occur. That's what "exhaustiion" means.
    I suggest you try 2...

Re: Does the 5X8 format have advantages over 5X7?

I never worry about equivalents tp 35mm lenses. In my mind, everything to do with 35mm is a compromise because the worker wants a smaller camera. When I began using sheet film. 4x5 was considered...

No - But it requires careful handling.

The best answers for you will come when you try it on each camera.
  17. Re: Mounting a filter safely to Caltar II-N 210mm lens

A metal hood adds probably more protection than a filter which might be broken during a fall and scratch the lens.

    Re: Leaving Kodak for Ilford

Just don't buy too much Metol at once. It is the ingredient that oxidizes, turns brown and stinks. I often use it when it has turned tan, but if dark brown, out it goes.
  24. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Over-exposed and over--developed. Also, the developer you are using will produce too much contrast for this film. I have used more than 500 sheets of it and never used D-76 stock. In fact, I don't...

What do you hae under the paper you are attempting to coat? That can make a big difference in their efficiency.
  26. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Try an EI of 100 0and dilute the developer 1part developer and 3 parts water at 68-70 deg F.
    I can't give you a time as I don't use D76 with this film.

    Re: Print evaluating light

The best viewing light for color images depends upon the lighting available where the finished print will be hung.
Thus my choice would be a typically well lit room in the home.

    Re: 4x10 Photography

    A suggestion:
If referring to a photograph, it will help if the name of the photographer is included. Often the comment is several images removed from the one which is being discussed.
