Thanks! Bought it.
Is the Chinese copy also marked Sinar? Just want to know whether they are easy to tell apart. Also, would you pay £200 for a beat up pan tilt head in usable condition. It feels very very expensive.
Explains why I can't find any :)
Yes. All back together again and a lot better than it was before. Not perfect and I keep find blackened dry grease on places I had already cleaned, but I guess that's what happens when I don't open...
Couldn't find a new standard at less than £100 so ended up using some epoxy to make the repair. Seems to have worked pretty well. I have now opened an cleaned the front and rear frames and greased...
Is it possible to buy minor parts for these Normas still. The previous owner of the Norma had for some reason bent the tab on the sliding clip the wrong way, and it effectively broke when I was...
The micro drive is the focus bit? That is relatively smooth. It is a bit inconsistent in its smoothness, but perfectly usable I think. The rise and fall (is that what it is called?) Is not...
Ok. I just went through a hole can of electrical parts cleaner and am feeling quite light headed. Outdoors too, but I was spraying the who assembly quite liberally and letting it drain off it. Pretty...
Thanks. I'll order some penetrating oil. I did take both of them apart. And they are both stuck.
I have seen the figure in page 18. That was sort of why I was asking the question. I was surprised...

This is the picture of what is stuck. Am I supposed to be able to remove this riser from the rod? I can't seem to create any distance between the riser and the knob.
Also, if I do manage...
Ok. Fixed (sort of) the first problem. Managed to reshape the riser sufficiently to screw the cap back in. Though it didn't feel very nice.
Still stuck at the tilt locking screw. Any help...
So started disassembling the and I think I may have already mess things up. :(
I can't screw the standard rod cap back on. I am not sure if caused this while slide off the holder, or if it was...
Thanks both. The issue is that I don't know how these cameras are supposed to feel and how smooth they are supposed to be, so I was just going to do a full CLA to make sure everything is working...
I read through the guide and that thread and, I have to admit, I haven't understood everything. Maybe I need the video, or maybe I just need to get started and take it one step at a time and see what...
Thank you very much!
Or at least does anyone know where I can find the CLA guide and or the video? None of the links I have tried so far work.
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but just got my Norma and some of the movements are a bit stiff. I was wondering if anyone has tried the INTERFLON FOOD LUBE with much (and continued) success.
Have I understood correctly that something like this would need a sinar shutter?
...
Thanks again. I am definitely tired of equipment hunting (It hasn't just been the camera. It's been developing equipment, paper, chemicals, enlarger, scanning setup, printer etc). I will go with a...
Thanks Andrew! Do you have a camera store or were you going to give me suggestions?
Thanks for everyone. This has been all very helpful.
Alex, do you have any suggestions for good shops in the UK for fair priced large format gear? I have noticed that pricing can be quite variable.
Just a follow up. If I see a lens with a "broken shutter" is that convertible to a barrel lens? Is that the prime candidate to purchase if at a good price?
Wow, these sinar shutters are selling...
I know I know. :( I am sure my question seems lazy and has been asked a thousand times before. But it really feels to hard to figure out right now for my brain, and I just want to start shooting....
What would happen if I want to buy a field camera at some point in the future? Is it relatively easy or even possible to get shutters for the barrel lenses?
Any reason for the Graphic and Lisco...
I am sorry, but I found his response somewhat mocking. Unnecessarily so. I have not gone through all of his previous post to get a deeper understanding which may have perhaps resulted in me taking a...
That sounds encouraging. You are right. I need to shoot both and just experiment. Thanks for that.
You are right and I appreciate what you are saying. I guess I am so far away from doing...
Brilliant! Thanks. Is there anything that I need to look out for other than whether there is a shutter included. If it is working and if there is any damage, etc to to the lens? I understand Sinar...
Oh! Thank you for clarifying that. I always thought that depth of field is a function of the focal length and aperture size, and that the reason people talk about shallower depth of field on larger...
So I seemingly ignored everyone's advice on this forum (stick with medium format they told me) and bought a Sinar Norma. The camera comes with a single lens board, but no lenses. I guess all I need...
I am not sure your example really supports your proposition. Your example supports the notion that when you value each shot you take you will think about it more and so produce better photos. So art...
I like the process. Far more than digital. Though I have to admit that developing can be tedious. As can dealing with all the chemicals and equipment needed to develop and print. My point was that...
Let me try to explain myself.
Analogue photography is slow, it is very slow (and expensive if not). I know to some extent that can be a good thing, as it forces one to slow down and think....
It is starting to seem that way, though I have really liked some of the images produced by LF cameras, and I was keen not to build a MF systen (something like the Hasselblad much more costly than LF...
1. Shoot: People, singular building / objects (e.g. a boat abandoned in ice, abandoned house, etc. But mainly people. Not interested in trying to reproduced detailed pictures of nature or city scape....
Thanks. That is all I have been doing for the last 2 weeks, but is extremely difficult for me to retain very dry abstract information in my head about a topic I have no practical experience with and...
I don't have a car, so portability is quite important. I will look at the Graphics, but the prices may not be as inviting in the UK as in the US
These are all monorails right? I assume you are suggesting these because the price is better? What would be a good price to pay for some of these? For example I saw a Sinar Norma for £399, but wasn't...
Thank you for all your responses so far. It has all been very informative. The point about rangefinders was not a complaint. Rather curiosity. Having never shot LF before, I just didn't understand...
I'll be happy with a 4x5 :)
