    Re: Large Format Landscapes

Very nice. I like “all over” landscapes like this.

    Re: Ektascan B/RA Sources?

Thanks Jim! That’s great to know. It’s made it a relatively low cost way to get me back using the 8x10. [Although not fully ortho, Acros seems to keep really well too—I just developed some 4x5...

I ordered a box too. I hope it can be frozen.... Big thanks to Paul for the heads up!

Re: safe haven for tiny formats

It’s just like developing film, isn’t it? Time, temperature and agitation.

Very nice Peter! Your scoring is superb. This was my last sourdough bake on Sunday.

    Re: Ektascan B/RA Sources?

Has anyone had experience in freezing x-ray film? I know this film has short expiration dates.
    Thanks.

Re: Urgent need help to develop my film

That is just fine. Don’t increase the time. That will only overcook the highlights. You have plenty of shadow detail already.

    Re: Ektascan B/RA Sources?

I couldn’t find any other source in a quick search. When my one box runs out, I’ll probably try one of the green sensitive double-sided emulsions.

There is a nice tribute in The Guardian.

    Re: Large Format Landscapes

Thanks. It was a bit hard to find a shadow to meter! The shadow at the bottom of the tree was EV 10 and the brightest highlight I could find was EV 15. I placed the shadow on Zone III. It’s FP4,...

    Re: Around the house?

Well done. This is the kind of image that the average person would think, Yeah, I could have taken that. But we know how much goes into making it!

    Re: Abstracts

I like that one a lot Bryan! The composition is great, and Im impressed with your mastery of x-ray film. Bravo!

I took a hike with my Crown Graphic today, and wished Id had either more skill...
  18. Re: Backpacks for 4X5 with 3 small lenses and Chamonix F2

Im not sure what this one was called. Its bigger than a Bomb pack, and has a more modern fabric. I also have a Bomb, a Terraplane, and.... If I were buying now I would get this. The Y zipper is...
  19. Re: Backpacks for 4X5 with 3 small lenses and Chamonix F2

I always recommend a good backpack, not a photo branded one. I think Dana Gleason designs the best load-carrying frames. This is a 15 year old Dana Designs that I use for 4x5. His newer packs are...

Beautiful Reinhold! This one falls into the plus category, but its old. Fujinon 125 mm on FP4 in Pyrocat.

    Re: 210mm lens for 8x10?

My older Convertible Symmar 210/370 covers, although I haven’t pushed the movements. I also use a 240 G Claron that covers with limited movements.
  22. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

This was another experiment, in a couple of senses. It was taken about 5:30 p.m. EDT, so I rated the film at 50. I was also using a Symmar convertible 210/370 at 370 with just the rear element. Is...

  24. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

This was the first time I’ve dealt with bellows extension and reciprocity adjustments. I used the 1:1:200 dilution for 8 minutes, with agitation for the first minute and for 5 seconds every 30...
  25. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

    Thanks Andrew.
  26. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Thanks Jim! Is that for silver, or alt processes? I may try to get back to Pt/Pd with these negs, but for the moment Im thinking silver contact prints.
    Thanks again,
    Dave
  27. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Thanks Koraks. Heres the second negative, shot with a medium yellow filter and a stop added exposure. On this one I used 1:1:200 dilution (12:12:2400), for 10 minutes, with continuous agitation...
  28. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Thanks Jim. If I recall correctly you also have been using Pyrocat with x-ray film. I would be interested in your procedures, if you don’t mind sharing them again. This thread is very hard to...
  29. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Yep, those are clouds. I’m going to stick to this procedure.
  30. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

I rushed out today when it looked like there might be some sunshine. If Id had a bit more time I would have tried for a better composition, and more precise focusing, but this was really just...
  31. Re: MF (6x4.5,6x6,6x7,6x9,6x12) B&W film images sharing

Wow, that’s great Merg! I bet the print would be incredible. Thanks for sharing with us.
  32. Re: Me, my inexperienced butt, and the backcountry

I would also choose a Crown Graphic rather than the Intrepid. And I bet you can find a dark corner where you can load holders at night. Bring trays with you.
  33. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Thanks Jason. I’m going to keep experimenting with Pyrocat, and different dilutions and agitation schemes, for a while, then Dektol, D-23, or Rodinal might be next.

Re: Eliot Porter exhibit in Maine

Thanks Jason. Those in your photos are two of my favorites.
  35. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Thanks. I think it’s pretty random already with the 11x14 tray, but I’ll try agitating on the 30 second mark. I’ve got to shoot again....
  36. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

I usually process 8x10 in Patterson trays tha are just slightly larger than the negative. With the x-ray film I’ve moved up to 11x14 flat bottom Cescolite trays, so the volume of liquid is twice as...
  37. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Thanks Koraks, I will keep that in mind. I’m trying to work this out with Pyrocat because I’ve settled on that developer for my other films.
  38. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Of course this was a flat-light-on-snow day, so it looks a bit smudged, and I didnt spot the dust, but Id say the original problem was the safe light. I will try to shoot some more this weekend,...

Thanks Jason. That LED might have been the culprit. I don’t mind loading and unloading in the dark
