  7. Re: Designing a studio space for natural light portraiture

I crossed over the retirement bridge on January 1 of this year and I hope you can keep the car moving toward that goal. I must confess it was weird to give up gainful employment willingly.

  9. Re: Alternative sources for Mounting Fluid?

In the old days of the printing business we used baby oil for mounting transparencies. I can get messy.
  10. Re: An old friend offered us his D-2 he no longer uses.

I would keep both. I have a D-2 that I rescued from friend's front porch. I have not used it, but could not let it hit the trash bin.
  11. Re: Has anyone made a large split back contact frame?

Most of these units are referred to plate burning frames. The were used to expose printing plates and also proofing materials, all for the commercial printing industry. NuArc is a US company. In...

  13. Re: Large Carbon Prints from small negative

Carbon printing is by nature a contact only process due to the speed (or lack of) exposing the tissue with UV light. I have not made darkroom enlarged negatives in a very long time and then the were...
  14. Re: Advice for installing louvers and a fan for a darkroom shed?

Long ago I had a darkroom in a free standing 2 car garage. In Memphis the weather can be pleasant often at night and I would open the door at night when printing. Now my darkroom is in the basement...

How did you frame and focus this shot? Did you have a small ladder or maybe the big rock served as a step?

  17. Re: macOS 11 upgrade discards printer/scanner drivers: replacements may be unavailabl

I work in commercial printing and we were warned by Heidelberg not to upgrade because it would wipe out our ability to make plates.

Our house was built in 1912 and also has a low basement ceiling. Like your house the floor joists are uneven. I used oriented strand board for the ceiling and walls. It has worked great and well...

Re: Framing a darkroom against concrete wall

Like others have mentioned I framed my basement darkroom away from the concrete walls and used black plastic for a vapor/light shield.

Re: nuarc xeon printer, front shield?

On those units the front shield was dark plex or something similar. The internal fans should cool the unit. I think the easiest solution would be a black out curtain. That is what all large plate...

    Re: UV Lightsource

I looked at the specs on the screen printing unit and because it uses CFL bulbs I believe the light would be very uneven. Do you need a contact frame as well? If not then something light this might...

  34. Re: Removing sellotape to scan at full size

If that is red litho tape it should come off easily. The wild card is how long has it been on the film and how was the negative stored. The gum on that tape will clean off easily with film cleaner.

    Re: Omega Automega D3

I did use the autofocus but found that the focus did shift when moving the enlarger up and down. However fine focusing with a grain magnifier was quick because the negative stayed close in focus.

    Re: Omega Automega D3

I used a D-3 autofocus for several years. I only had a 150mm and a 50mm focusing track. I was able to us an 80mm lens for 120 printing by using a bellows focusing cone and the 50mm track. I gave...
