  5. Re: Schneider Kreuznach Super Angulon MC XL 5,6/58

If I was in your place, I’d get the72mm SAXL.

Much bigger IC and far easier to use.

(And less physics for you to argue with…)
  6. Re: Schneider Kreuznach Super Angulon MC XL 5,6/58

    Super wides = super vignetting.

The unavoidable laws of physics…. This lens has light “falloff”; yes, the image circle is being pushed with 4x5”, but we’re not discussing mechanical vignetting...

If you didn’t notice the difference between the operational end and the static end of the camera back, I’d argue that it’s an organic flaw, rather than a design flaw…

  9. Re: Does changing aperture move the focus point

Shine a laser pointer onto a wall in the dark. Bung a Bahtinov mask on the lens, stop down and use the defraction spikes to focus. Done.

Re: Front element chip: How bad is this?

Also will depend on format. The smaller the format, sans movements, the less the impact.

    Re: Photographing stars, 4x5

20 minute subs with reticule alignment. Sorry; I don’t believe that is possible.

A 5 minute sub with tracking is tough enough with digital wide field, let alone 20 minutes unguided.

    Re: Photographing stars, 4x5

This is going to be a rabbit hole if you choose to pursue it.

It is NOT as simple as putting the camera on an Equatorial mount and press the shutter release. You need a way to polar align the...

Re: Stitching Panos in the Darkroom

Scan, stitch, print digital negative, print in darkroom.

Or just use a digital camera and get it tight first time.

A 36+ meg digital will outperform 6x9cm anyway, so why bother?
  22. Re: Shooting 4x5 panoramic images...looking for forum wisdom

Apart from a quasi-academic pursuit, I still don’t get the point of doing this.

This is particularly red forced by the workflow of film to digital, probably scanned on a flatbed.

    You’re...
  23. Re: Shooting 4x5 panoramic images...looking for forum wisdom

    I mainly shoot panoramic.

    For B&W, I’ve got my 7x17”.

I’ve sold off all my smaller format film stuff (eg. 6x17cm) and now only use digital for colour.

The key ingredients are a decent res...

Re: Which brand of 4x5 filmholder is best?

Actually, no need for you to be critical.

If you read the thread, it is about excluding bad options to leave those that are good.

    Thus, “read between the lines”.

Trust me - if I was going to...

  35. Re: Are there alternatives for Schneider Super Angulon XL 210mm to cover 11x14"?

Filters are a pain for the big 210mm’s.

I have 2 Polarisers for my 210mm SA, but have not seen any contrast filters available (127mm).

Would love a deep yellow or orange filter....

  38. Re: Stacking center filter with other filters

I used to mount the Pol filter behind the CF on my 72mm.

  39. Re: Lee Filters - anyone using these or Cokin et al squares?

Both Lee and Cokin produce horrible colour casts for positives. Very difficult to correct.

Companies like Kase, Nisi and Breakthrough have left them in the dust with newer optical coatings.
  40. Re: Grad ND, Contrast and Color FIlter Setup with Center Filter

When I had the same setup with a 90mm f5.6 (and the 72mm), I would simply Blutac the Grad in place.
