Re: 4x5 sheets light inside the film

Are the bellows firmly attached at each end? I could see something like this maybe happening if a gap opened between the bellows frame and the camera body while the film was in, with the dark slide...
  2. Re: I'm not sure if it's a popular size, but can I get some 5x7 camera recommendation

I'm surprised no one has mentioned it, but the Chamonix 5x7 is right at the top end of your budget. They're very nice-- lightweight, well built, and Hugo does a nice job supporting them.

    Re: New Computer Time...

This is *not* a good time to be building a PC.

Component prices have jumped in the past 12 months, stocks are low, and video cards are going for ridiculous prices.

Re: Chamonix 810V Back Orientation Mistake?

The bail is fixed to the part of the back that you take off and rotate-- so if you had it set to load from the bottom, the bail should have been operating from the bottom as well. Having no actual...

Re: 2 sheets of film in the same holder?

I would think between the refraction index of the film base and the extra distance to the second sheet of film, you'd get a very poorly focused image.

Easier to lock down the tripod and take two...

  8. Re: Precision and Accuracy in LF Photography: How much is enough?

@Havoc, I'm not sure what's going on, but as a novice at film, who started with LF, went to MF because I wanted more practice at a cheaper per-frame cost, and then picked up a 35mm because all the...

    Re: Rollei Infrared 400

I can assure you, you didn't screw up as much as I did my first try with Rollei. The most embarrassing was that I've got a "flip" bracket so I can swing the IR filter out of the way, focus/compose,...
  15. Re: How much dimmer on the ground glass is an f/9 lens vs a f/5.6? Or f/5.6 vs f/4.5?

Re: new (and first) 4x5 camera

There's nothing wrong with the Intrepid-- but it does have some niggles that will make it more difficult for a novice LF photographer. There are no detents or markings for getting the film plane and...
  20. Re: Looking for advice/guides on digital to film (not inkjet)

As far as I know, your only real option if you want to avoid inkjet / dye printing, is to project the digital image via some form of display, and take a photograph of that image.

    But I don't see...

  22. Re: Which would be easier to build - 8x10 SLR or TLR?

If this is for studio work, wouldn't a parallax-corrected viewfinder do as good a job? Or do you mean to correct critical focus right up until the shutter trips?

    What part of "I [...] think it's a bad idea" wasn't clear? ;)

No, I'm afraid that won't work. The rear of the Tele-Xenar is 86mm, and the opening in the 45N-1's standard is only 84m... :)

Sorry, I wasn't clear-- I personally, think it's a bad idea on either camera.

But if I were crazy enough to try it, it would be on the 45N-1. You can extend the standard out to 300mm without...

    Re: 300mm lens 4x5" landscape

Actually-- looking at the design of the H-1 and the 45N-1, I'd be happier putting the 300mm f/5.6 on the 45N-1. The base plate just looks a bit more secure, and the slides don't look as...

Or, I can download an STL file from Thingiverse,...
