  1. Re: Getting back into 8x10, would a cheap Intrepid Satisfy?

I was going to write to just get another Deardorff, but after looking at the Interpid 8x10 website and seeing the price, I think there is a lot of value there. Obviously you know how to use an 8x10...
  2. Re: Schneider Super Symmar 110mm XL…? Should I get one?

Gosh, on 8x10 the Grandagon 115mm is tiny :)
  3. Re: Moderate wide + shallow DOF lens recommendations?

The answer is a 105mm on 4x5. It will give exactly what you asked for. Trouble will be finding one that covers as most are 6x9cm lenses.

Re: Picked up an Automega E5 -- confused...

That is a fantastic idea with the 6x7 light source instead of the opal lamp. I have a Philips using that concept. Again it is a condenser enlarger with a variable color light source.

Re: Picked up an Automega E5 -- confused...

Very confused. What is a 'lens circle?'
Is the 5x7 carrier glass? If it is masked, why is there so much spill light around the negative projection?

    Just GUESSING:
    1) You are projecting the 4x5...

Re: Equivalent in 35 mm terms

I actually measure the viewfinder-image area of the negative. The angle of view between the viewfinder and film gate can vary considerably, depending on the viewfinder system of the camera. Also, how...

  10. Re: Almost done with film drying cabinet rebuild

I keep my mouth shut about all kinds of things, like when I see a cat used for lens cleaning when that's known to leave hairy residue unless the cat is held correctly, a very bad thing for lenses and...

    Re: Lens coverage test, how?

I don't give a hoot about any circumference number. I want to know, for example, how high I can raise the front standard. So, I mount the lens and observe the image circle through the cut corners. ...

Re: Unidentified Problem - Need Help!

Just like any other light leak, a pinhole will expose to the film from the moment the darkslide is removed. Could be hours or seconds. The camera's shutter has nothing to do with it.
  30. Re: Using Hasselblad B60 (Proxar & Softar) on 4x5

Large format is an optical system, just like medium format. The results of using those will be similar as they will work the same on a view camera as they do an SLR.

    Re: No rangefinder

Depends on if it comes with a ground glass back or not.
Otherwise, people have claimed success with an electronic rangefinder and focus scale on the bed.

Re: Unidentified Problem - Need Help!

If you shutter speed for the exposure was, for example 1/125 of a second, the pinhole exposure would need about 10 seconds.
  33. Re: What cameras use an 80mm square lens board?

Yes, both the 6x9cm and 4x5in metal field cameras use the same tiny lensboards. The monorails use larger lensboards.

  35. Re: 135mm Schneider Componon Enlarger Lens Mount Size?

  37. Re: Issue with Jobo Process operation - Lift arm

Actually that is what I do with a large tank 900ml. Eight 35mm or ten 120 or 5 8x10 or ten 4x5.
  38. Re: Issue with Jobo Process operation - Lift arm

I use the arm to help lower it but not to lift anything greater than 300ml tank or so. I have been doing it like this for over 20 years. My lift handle is still in good shape and I use it when doing...

Re: What to do with LittleJohn

It is a ULF enlarger, yes? If so, maybe put that in the thread title. Only reason I read the thread is I am currently eating a #5 Vito Little John sub from Jimmy Johns...I'm not kidding.
