Re: extra wide angle lens for 8x10

The Nikon 120SW's weight isn't bad (610g) when you consider that the 165mm Super Angulon is 1605g. Of course, 610 is still about double your G Claron.

There's always the regular Angulon 165mm,...

Re: LF lenses with cat's eye bokeh?

Having movements from a large image circle and also cat-eye bokeh are two competing things. The cat's eye is mechanical vignetting and mechanical vignetting also impacts the size of the image circle....

No picture, but my 11x14, tripod (no head), and Fujifilm A 360mm comes in at 23.4lb.

Half my weight is the tripod.

  14. Re: Using a DOF simulator for ULF 14X16" Film 800 mm Lens

An 800mm lens at f/22 on 14x16 would be equivalent to ~672mm f/18 on 11x14. The crop factor for DoF between the two formats is .84x.
  15. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

I made an Acrylic 1 gal talk for 11x14 that works well. Still a lot of developer, but if I expose all three of my holders, it comes out alright.

Re: Coverage of 165mm Super Angulon?

The 120mm SA is well known for covering 8x10 despite official specs otherwise, I believe the hope is that the same is true for the 165.

Ridax's comments about illumination and astigmatism are spot on.

And different lens manufacturers consider different amounts of astigmatism to be acceptable.

Re: Equivalent in 35 mm terms

With 5x7, I move the decimal point and then double.

    180mm? 18x*2 = 36mm. It's quick and dirty, but it's effective and "close enough."

    Same for apertures.

    f/5.6? f/.56*2 = f/1.12.

  40. Re: Symmar 300mm f5.6 in Compur electronic shutter

The Symmar 300mm f/5.6 was originally fitted to a Compound 3. Most likely the Compur Electronic you have was given the threads of the compound shutter in order to fit it.

    That was the case with...
