    Re: 11x14" vs. 7x17"

Well, I took the plunge on a Canham 7x17. I'm not looking forward to completely changing my development and contact printing process but hopefully it will be worth it. The slightly lower weight and...

    Re: 11x14" vs. 7x17"

For someone based in the U.S. that's true but if importing the film (like me), can be cheaper, e.g. there is ADOX CHS at 6.50 euro per sheet.

Yes it was a gross generalisation but the point I...

    Re: 11x14" vs. 7x17"

Yes that's indeed a big consideration, e.g. the Chamonix 7x17 is exactly the same width as my 8x10 Mark II. But then I think about the added complexity of developing 7x17 and that seems to balance...

    11x14" vs. 7x17"

    Hi,

Does anyone have experience with both of these formats? I'm looking at the next step beyond 8x10" and having trouble choosing between these 2 - camera cost, film cost/availability and weight...

    Re: Old HP5 Film

I just shot a box of 2012 HP5+ in 8x10. I gave it an extra stop of light and that was it.

The HP5+ expired in 2012 that I have seems to scratch more than fresh. It's a single box that I bought used.

  13. Keeping the film rebate for contact prints

I was wondering what everone's opinion was on this - just having started wet contact printing 8x10 again I realised don't like the black notches left by the film holders to I get out my Dahle and cut...

Dahle rotary cutter + film changing tent for me. I originally bought the tent to load 8x10 holders but I'm discovering more and more uses for it: cutting film, cutting paper, loading development...
  15. Re: 8x10 Wide Angle Lenses for Still Life

I've been happy with the results from my Fujinon 210 (latest multicoated version). The results are as good as at infinity to my eye.

    Re: Shot abandonment

Looking at the GG, sure. Once the dark slide is pulled - not so much. I like poker and sometimes you just have to play it with your Tachihara! I lose more often than not but I don't mind that.

Nope. The 4x5 version of Fuji packfilm FP100B45, FP100C45) has not been in production for approx. 10 years.

    Re: old film

I just shot some FP4 (non-plus) in 35mm at 25 ISO and pushed it 1 stop in Rodinal 1+25 - the results look the same as fresh film (to me). This stuff expired some time in the 80s so similar to yours...

First result in 1+25 Rodinal. I was hoping to use 1+50 but the Ilford Color drum I use doesn't have enough capacity for developer as dilute as that. I had 3 negatives but the first 2 were clear...

    Re: Focusing at 1:1 magnification

Yes, thanks to the tips in this thread I've confirmed focus at 1:1 on my 180 and 250mm lenses. Now that I've done it it's easy, reminds me of working distance on small format macro lenses.

    Focusing at 1:1 magnification

    Hi,

I haven't done any closeup work since I had a 4x5" Sinar about 7 years ago. What I did then was add an intermediate standard and second bellows to ensure I had double the bellows draw. It was...

What's that wide film in the middle, 8x20"? Looks absolutely massive compared ot the (I presume) 8x10" below it.

    High ISO

I'd like to see some images made with film pushed above 400 ISO! I'm thinking mostly B&W but of course if anyone pushes their colour film that high then that's welcome too :)

  34. Re: Beginner-friendly developer for 8x10 HP5 and Tri-X in 8x10"

  35. Beginner-friendly developer for 8x10 HP5 and Tri-X in 8x10"

Re: Aspect ratio of 10x8 and 5x4?

Calm down folks. This is not as straightforward of a question as you might think - both 4x5 and 8x10 have dead areas on the borders due to how film holders work, this could easily change the aspect...
  39. Where does one get custom ground glass from these days?

    Hi,

I'm just about to get back into 8x10 with my Tachihara field and the original ground glass is starting to get on a bit. There are lots of references online but many of them seem dead - e.g. I...
