Was not aware there was even a driver for Win 8 or 10!
Try plugging your USB cable into a different port.
FWIW, some scanner drivers (especially Microtek i900) doesn't matter whether emulsion is down or up. The software auto corrects.
Would certainly not trash any negatives (or scans of same) due to...
LZW compression (your 70) is the standard for many software's.
Changing compression (while saving) to NONE likely the your original size (76).
Even with film in a holder, the scanned image will not likely be perfectly straight.
Requiring rotation and the percentage of rotation may vary widely.
300 PPI is actual size of the 8 x 10. 7 or 8 times that is sort of overkill, IMO 600 PPI is plenty for an 8 x 10.
I've only scanned a few 8 x 10s, however 3k in B&W of 5 x 7s and 3 x 4s, which were...
KMiller,
You may purchase some 8 X 10 plastic sheets (approx $15-20) from a machinists supply that are .080 thick (among other thickness').
If you cut them yourself it'll be messy. Some...
the i900's were built for professionals and durability.
Granted they are slower than LED's but they are workhorses,
KMiller,
If you don't have any film holders?
The holders for the 8700, i800 and i900 are identical although they may be a different color (doesn't matter).
Somebody is selling film holders...
KMiller, I was referring to the glass platen (lower drawer) and not the reflective (top) glass.
Try elevating the film with something of slight thickness (discussed here many, many times).
Don't...
I had terrible results scanning on the glass on both the i800 (comparable to your 8700) & i900.
Perhaps if the file was elevated (discussed in this group much) results would be better.
Using the...
njaimo,
For your B&W 4 X 5's I believe you'd be pleased with the results.
Make sure you try the different film settings (brand and ASA speed) to determine what works best for your film....
Sorry. You did state B&W
There's a bunch of old thread (some as far back as 2007) in this forum on both the Microtek i800 and i900.
The newest model with LED's is the 9800.
i800 1200dpi max
i900 3200dpi max
9800 says...
First, not a newcomer to scanning. Been doing so intensively for more than twenty years.
Complete scanning of 9 of 14 years of photos from a horse race track. approx 15k.
Took an eight month break....
Richard,
Approx six years ago, did a project that included some some 3 x 4 negs.
Had a a machinist friend create an adapter that fit into my 4 x 5 holder using machinsts plastic. that was...

Artixscan is the newer name
Not that I'm aware of. In 2011 I downloaded all the drivers that were available. Have blank folders for 7_32 & 7_64.
If your able to locate a 7_64 driver it may work on the W10.
Don't recall if I...
IMO these scanners offer superb prices for quality work.
One recently listed on eBay for $1 and $59 Shipping (excessive) ended with no bids. Included everything from original box except one of the...
Considering the large file sizes that are discussed here, discs for BU (even the newer Triple Layer Blu Rays (100gig) are not viable.
CD 650 meg
DVD Single Layer 4.7 gig
DVD Dual 8.5 gig
Blu Ray...
Alan,
thanks for your input.
All software's use the scanner driver for the actual scanning (in this instance Microtek ScanImage), however the driver doesn't store the image in the...
Patrick,
In ten days (and an approx 250 dual-scans) and since changing the setting, this issue has not occurred a single time. Thanks so much.
Patrick,
Just wanted to thank you again.
Will have to wait and see when/if it happens again (been being more careful with the mouse buttons).
This is an intensive project.
Had not...
Many thanks Patrick.
Don't recall if I tried that. Will give it a go.
One problem is that Ifranview doesn't retain the settings because the scan file sizes are so large. It won't even retain the...
Apologize if this is off topic.
I've used Ifranview as my initial scan software for more than ten years. Tens of thousands of scans.
A month ago began a project to scan an approximate 30k in A120...
try a google on 'APS film holders'
Microtek film holders are occasionally available on eBay.
Film holders for the i900 & i800 are identical with the exception of their color i900 (black) and i800 (white).
If your interested in an...
Many thanks Doug.
The scanner that was bad was cleaned three times in past 6-7 weeks (I've been unusually active in scanning during same period).
The new scanner glass also required cleaning,...
Many thanks.
Duh! Knew there was a simple answer ;)
FWIW, after turning the light off there was no difference in shade.
Replaced the scanner with a spare-new (same brand and model) and the...
Embarrassed to admit that I don't know this.
My image scans (in past weeks after a two-year inactivity) are coming through rather light (as compared to the printed source).
I've a 48" overhead...
During 2013, I had a project where I was to scan some 12k in B&W negatives. After scanning just under 3k mis-communications ended the project.
I purchased four Microtek Scanmaker i900. (There are...
You should be able to download drivers (possibly some other software's) from the Microtek website
Perhaps if you provide more details that are specific to any issues you may be having, other will be able to assist you.
Are your issues specific to A3 (8 x 10) negatives?
Are your issues...
FWIW, this inquiry is very troubling to me!
If your not aware of how to transfer the files, than it also states that you do NOT have backup procedures in place for your precious photo files.
I'd...
Generally speaking on scanners the calibration and most sensitive areas are the upper-right-corner. Check the manual for the 700 and see if that is so. If so, than a blemish on the lower right may...
I've three I-900's and they are real work horses and do nice work.
They are rather expensive to ship as they are quite heavy.
Most used ones don't come with the calibrating strips, and generally...
Have a pro-photographer friend that is genius at making things.
He had an old cradle off something, built a frame and added one of his cameras to it.
Worked great
Two years ago, I began a project where I was to scan some 12k in negatives (the project fell apart after 3k due to mis-communication). Having completed 3k.
Some of the negatives were 4 x 5's and...
