Re: My hyper-confused self and the f-stop

I don't think you're confused. In fact, your logic seems pretty sound. Since f/stop is not an absolute measurement but a proportion, yes, long lens collects more light from the same subject angle...

    Re: B&W digital workflow....what's yours?

It's neither. Whatever works for the author is right. There is nothing wrong with presets, and nothing wrong with manual control on every step. The end result is what matters, anyway.

    Re: B&W digital workflow....what's yours?

    Adam,

Your approach is valid. The color cast is coming from the mismatch between the camera white balance selection and the temperature of the light lighting the negative. One way to reduce...

    Re: B&W digital workflow....what's yours?

    @Steven,

That generally is not the case. Even very flat manufacturer profiles, e.g. Nikon's Camera Flat do have non-linear tonal response curve, so Nikon's Capture NX-D, for one, does not...

    Re: B&W digital workflow....what's yours?

I've used NegativeLabPro quite a bit with B&W negatives (both scanned and DSLR) but my current take is that it doesn't really bring many benefits there.

Adam, what exactly are the results you're hoping for and what you're getting that doesn't match them?

When digitizing B&W negatives I consider getting the linear source image of utmost importance...

Does anyone here have any experience with eTone fresnel screens such as this one...
  10. Re: Fresnel screen focus distance is different from ground glass

Well, despite the fact it wasn't designed for fresnel screen, there are two separate steps in the back wall, a pair of vertical and a pair of horizontal. The horizontal ones are deeper than vertical....
  11. Re: Fresnel screen focus distance is different from ground glass

Originally I wasn't aware the issue is specific to this camera model so I was looking for a general confirmation of whether this is not an expected behavior. Turns out this topic has been discussed...
  12. Re: Fresnel screen focus distance is different from ground glass

Thanks for pointing that out, I was not aware this was a design issue. I contacted the manufacturer and their recommendation is to remove the fresnel and focus on GG.
  13. Fresnel screen focus distance is different from ground glass

I'm using a Chamonix 45N-1 4x5 camera which comes with a fresnel focusing screen. The screen is set up on the lens side from the ground glass and the grooves are also facing the lens. It is a plastic...
