  7. Re: Decided to get a Howtek 8000HiRes

You may very well be correct. Final scan resolution is dependent on a lot of factors. For the V850 after setting correct focus and becoming proficient at wet scanning 6000 bind to 3200 works the...

  10. Re: Your Best Photograph from the Previous Month - Critique and Discussion Encouraged

To Vaughn's mention of dark/shadows. I liken not opening shadows as much as possible to seeing a woman who is modestly dressed, like a librarian or Amish. There is the hint of what else there is,...
  11. Re: Your Best Photograph from the Previous Month - Critique and Discussion Encouraged

That was my thought. First rendition was how I saw it when there. The second, posted here is a bit over the top, but as you say, fits expectations. Saturated, in your face colors with shadows really...
  12. Re: Your Best Photograph from the Previous Month - Critique and Discussion Encouraged

I thought about removing it, but then decided to leave it. To me it adds to the barren feeling of the scene. Like an era where humans and most life have long left the earth. Almost apocalyptic. Like...

This is a Portra160 4x5 sheet film shot with a Chamonix View Camera 45H-1 and Nikkor 75mm f/4.5@f/32. 3 min exposure and a 0.9 RND. Scanned on an Epson V850 at 6400dpi with a 2x2 bin dow to 3200dpi....

    Re: Large Format Landscapes

Revised Yavapai Point based on some feedback from a member. I avoided originally going this way to avoid overdoing it. But this does have a certain appeal. One thing I am always amazed by is how...

    Re: Large Format Landscapes

You are probably right. I have been leaning towards not opening shadows too much and not as much saturation.

  18. Re: Travelers: New X-ray machines WILL ruin your film

I will find out. I had my 35mm film camera in my checked bags.
  19. Re: Travelers: New X-ray machines WILL ruin your film

I just flew to OKC and they had signs up that said film would be ruined if in checked baggage.
  20. Re: Decided to get a Howtek 8000HiRes

I keep my tiff file sizes between 1gb and 3.95gb for 4x5. I like to scan at max resolution and the bin down to half that. But with the drum scanner, I might get files at 3200dpi as good as scanning...
  21. Re: Your Best Photograph from the Previous Month - Critique and Discussion Encouraged

I see it now. Skies are always my toughest portion of a scene to get right. I'll have to remember that step. Thanks for the pointers.
  22. Re: Decided to get a Howtek 8000HiRes

I am getting a good deal so to speak, I am just curious about how it compares to the Tango. Tango is a bit more, but not much and freaking huge. How many 4x5s can you scan on the Howtek8000 at same...
  23. Decided to get a Howtek 8000HiRes

Fully refurbished, 6 month warranty, set up, comes with computer to run it, software etc. I looked at tango, but they are quite heavy, and from research require a fair amount of servicing whereas...

    Re: Large Format Landscapes

I agree. After looking at it, I think it should be desaturated slightly to keep it from fighting for attention and instead become a supporting character.

    Re: Large Format Landscapes

Here is the uncropped version. Not much in the sky and a little bit of work to expand crop. I may do that as the more I look at it, it seems a bit cramped on composition. Feels like it needs a bit...
  26. Re: Your Best Photograph from the Previous Month - Critique and Discussion Encouraged

Looks like you opened it up shadows a bit, but barely. I can go with that. I also see the crop from the left as well.

    Re: Using TXP 320

My main reason for it is the sensitivity it has in the blue region of light which is beneficial for astrophotography. It's a shame I can't get a film that is sensitive to red around 1100nm. Seems...
