Re: Music as analogy for LF photography

Photography by method is a sympathetic medium driven by light or Photo (light) graphy (record). Without light, there would be no image recorded.

Light be it shades of monochrome or tied with...

  3. Re: Fujinon 180mm. f/9 - Curious about some specs.

Plenty of chat about macro-micro lenses. Lenses are the easy part, camera, camera set up (tripod and all related) and lighting are the difficult part of macro-micro photography.

    As for the lens...

Heh... M420 is NOT portable at all.
Or bring the "subject" indoors as most lab folks do, not always possible.

  6. Re: Fujinon 180mm. f/9 - Curious about some specs.

Not just Minolta, Olympus, Canon and others made "macro photo" bellows lenses.

Before these were Zeiss Luminar (UltraPhot), Leitz Photar and others. They were parts of their Macro photo systems....
  7. Re: Fujinon 180mm. f/9 - Curious about some specs.

For images made larger than 1:1 or life size, reverse mounted enlarging lens works better than most would believe.
Schneider offered their M-componon in shutter back in the late 90's. These are...

  10. Re: Fujinon 180mm. f/9 - Curious about some specs.

Root of this lens question is... what are the image goals?

~Field folder camera doing landscapes _?_

    ~Portraits _?_

    ~Table top, still life _?_

    ~Commercial products _?_
  11. Re: Fujinon 180mm. f/9 - Curious about some specs.

Yes Drew, the entire Fujinon A series makes very good outdoor lenses at f16 and smaller taking apertures. They are indeed in many ways better than the common f5.6 Plasmat due to their smaller size /...
  12. Re: Fujinon 180mm. f/9 - Curious about some specs.

Going to be the single to rain on this parade. Had two examples of the Fujinon A 180mm f9 initially in the late 90's then again in the mid 2000's. Decided non-keeper both times. Just did not like the...

  15. Re: Who knows the origin of this 480mm Rodenstock lens?

Rodenstock APO ronar, excellent view camera lens. Image circle of 382mm at f22. 480mm/19" is a classic longer than normal focal length for 8x10.
