  1. Re: Advice needed for stuck lens retaining ring, please

If you want to use the method of cutting the retaining ring, find the replacement first.
I spent quite a while unsuccessfully searching for a Shannel shutter replacement ring.
    I ended up buying a...
  2. Re: why are there no "modern" super fast LF lenses?

Speaking of huge, fast LF lenses, here is a setup with a giant custom made shutter for a deardorf 8x10 and two titanic lenses:...
  3. Re: Advice needed for stuck lens retaining ring, please

I don't know if large format lenses are the same, but with regular SLR lenses, sometimes there is a bit of paint or sealant that makes things really hard to open. So a tiny bit of acetone on the end...
  4. Re: why are there no "modern" super fast LF lenses?

A fast lens means wide glass.
I guess that an F/1.2 4x5 lens (if it is technically feasible to make one) would weigh more than the camera, tripod, film holders, light meter times two.
    And it would...

    Re: Ground glass questions

They put lots of ads on ebay. It seems strange to me that the ground glass held in the hand rarely matches the description of what they are selling.

    Ground glass questions

It seems that the satin snow ground glass is no longer available.
I saw a product in the new products for super bright ground glass, but I saw no resolutions in the thread it if was good or not....
  9. Re: Which State is the Best State for Landscape Photographers to Live?

What happens if we put me in Zion park or Glacier national park with 19k worth of equipment and Ansel Adams with a pinhole box camera in a Scranton NJ parking lot? Who gets the better picture?
    So I...
  10. Re: Which State is the Best State for Landscape Photographers to Live?

I stand corrected. Even Nebraska and Kansas had some nice spots.
  11. Re: Which State is the Best State for Landscape Photographers to Live?

I guess anywhere except Kansas and Nebraska, and a few of the eastern seaboard states like New Jersey.
    Pacific Northwest - fabulous.
California, Nevada, New Mexico,m Utah - Fabulous

  12. Re: Any telephoto (360mm or above) recommendations for a 4x5 (TK45S)?

I have seen listings for a 500mm Telecongo that is f/8 and (supposedly) covers 5x7:

  15. Re: Is there a free site that will host your images in their original full resolution

I have a nice DSLR and a mirrorless camera. Both are made by Canon. I really like both of them, and especially the instant feedback of knowing you got the shot.
I have 512 GB memory cards in them....
  16. Re: Is there a free site that will host your images in their original full resolution

The sheer audacity to build a camera that large is awe inspiring.
  17. Re: Is there a free site that will host your images in their original full resolution

I am not looking to create a download site, more like a museaum.

Now, people will argue that it takes too long to download a giant image.
I guess in 10 years you will be able to download a...

Re: Rail size for a CALUMET 4X5 CC401?

FWIW, I got a response back from KEH and they offered to send me a return shipping label and were very apologetic.
I told them not to worry about it.
  20. Re: Is there a free site that will host your images in their original full resolution

Both of those sites are pretty cool.
  21. Re: Is there a free site that will host your images in their original full resolution

I imagine that you guys are correct and it is a bad idea.

There are about 2 billion pixels of information on a 4x5 image:

    At 48 bits per pixel...
  22. Re: Nagaoka cameras are still made in Japan. The story of a wooden LF craftsman.

That is a wonderful story. There are certain skills in the world that only exist in the minds of a few men.

    It can be making a...
  23. Re: Is there a free site that will host your images in their original full resolution

Now that I have some 4x5 cameras, I...
  24. Is there a free site that will host your images in their original full resolution?

I don't want to convert to JPEG and lose the image quality.
If there is no free site, is there a pay for usage site?

Re: Rail size for a CALUMET 4X5 CC401?

Re: Rail size for a CALUMET 4X5 CC401?

Further, telephoto designs (e.g. the Fujinon T 400 mm f/8) don't need the full 400mm for focus at infinity due to the telephoto design of the lens itself. So it would be a truly exotic lense that...

Re: Rail size for a CALUMET 4X5 CC401?

Well, the bellows difference is 22 inches - 16 inches = 6 inches.
Now, 16 inches is: 16 inches x 2.54 cetimeters/inch = 40.6 cm = 406 mm. Pretty long already. As soon as you go over 360mm the...

Re: Rail size for a CALUMET 4X5 CC401?

    It's a 20 inch rail, not a 22 inch rail.
The bellows is 16 inches long, making this camera a CC-400 and not a CC-401.
It's exactly identical to my other CC-400.

    Rail size for a CALUMET 4X5 CC401?

That was a wonderful article, that you so much for sharing that link!
