  1. Re: Should I Drum Scan, X1 Flextight Scan, or use the Epson V850 w/Aztek Wet Mount Ki

I second what Sandy says about a lens hood. Using live view, make one that cuts the image through the lens to just a tiny bit over the sensor size. I use black electrical tape and a metal lens hood....

    Re: Screen Cezanne Users Unite

Go light on the oil! I used sewing machine oil. I put a drop on a cotton cloth and applied to the rails. I put a small drop in a couple of areas where the linear bearing's are, and on the shafts...

    Re: Screen Cezanne Users Unite

A friendly chap who used to be a Screen technician has posted in this thread. I'd send him a pm or email. He also gave a how-to on how to safely open the scanner and apply lubricant. Sorry I...

    Re: Screen Cezanne Users Unite

My guess is that the linear motion system is not working smoothly. Another option is that there's some issues with the data transfer systems.

Re: Good 3rd-Party OEM inks for Epson?

I have a 4880. I use Cone refillable cartridges and inks. In my experience, Cone's products are very good, and so is their support.

I do that as well, including with my medium format Fuji rangefinders.
  17. Re: DSLR scanning vs. Epson V800 scanning

The Luminous-Landscape article is one of the better ones that I've seen. Note, though, that the camera used was a Sony A6000. There are much better options.
  18. Re: DSLR scanning vs. Epson V800 scanning

With a camera scanner, you can also optimize the scan in a number of ways that would be a challenge with a consumer scanner. You can change the exposure time, for instance, easily and quickly.

To check vibration resistance, tap anywhere on your system watching magnified live view. At 1x, I expect many will be surprised by how prone to vibration most systems are.
